KMBC: Century-Old Board Game Found In Home

The greatest Victorian-era closet case since Oscar and Lord Alfred?

Schrieber said the game was likely bought by the mansion’s patriarch, William Wagonner, for his then 6-year-old son.

There are believed to be only 10 copies of the game left in the world.

The game has images of Cy Young and Buck Ewing.

Researchers having trouble deciphering picture with “JULI_ FRANC_” under it…

Here's one that was sold for $17,000, with close-ups:

The object is to throw a crazy old man to the ground, right? That game rocks!

If I was a billionaire, this is the kind of useless stuff I'd spend too much on.

The game has images of Cy Young and Buck Ewing.

I'll bet Julio Franco is there too.

If only that joke had been made in the intro.

Old school "Feb'y" abbreviation for "Feb."

So who reads introductions?

Looking at those photos from the auction house, I'm trying to figure out who was the third baseman in the field for the game. The auctioneer's writeup says there are 18 portraits, 11 of them Hall of Famers. I could identify 17 portraits in the photos (plus the picture of Chief Zimmer). 10 of them are Hall of Famers, but I couldn't see who the third baseman was.

I am guessing the unidentified player is George Davis, who is a Hall of Famer and was a teammate of Zimmer's for a time with Cleveland, where he mostly played third base. I can't come up with any other candidate. I wonder if he got left off the auctioneer's list because his name was similar to George Davies, and the person writing the blurb got a bit confused.

I like how Chief Zimmer not only landed the endorsement for the game, but also wangled a spot in it for his minor-leaguer brother...

The game has images of Cy Young and Buck Ewing.

I'll bet Julio Franco Jesse Orosco's in it too.

Damn. He has spent a lifetime in the game. In fact, two lifetimes.

Vrhovnik tried to steal your thunder, but I just knew you could come through with a recycled joke too. As always!

Great intro!

Oscar and Lord Alfred?

Zimmer's Baseball, the game that dare not speak its name.

I hear Zimmer's Baseball Game was just cancelled. The owner is going for an online-only strategy.

It looks damn hard for a righty to hit a home run. And triples to left? It must be channeling Joe Jackson! You could juice the ball, too, by using a ball bearing.
