Kyle Schwarber seeks better results at leadoff | MLB.com

I know this is pointing out the obvious but…if he’s a click underneath the baseball, it’s not a good swing.

“Mentally, it gets frustrating,” Schwarber said. “You feel you put a good swing on the ball and you’re not getting a good result. I just have to keep going with the approach, stay positive every day. I’m never going up there thinking I’m going to get an out. I’m going to stay with my mind-set and keep approaching what I’m doing.”
“I’ve seen great swings,” Maddon said. “He’s just a click underneath the baseball.”

Maddon is saying it's a great swing that, at the moment, is just a click off. Happens to everybody except late-career Bonds.

I think I know what Maddon means. Schwarber hit one the other day that was about 3 feet shy in the RF corner. Next batter (Happ?) hit one to the exact same spot that was 5 feet deeper. One or two games later, Schwarber smacked one to CF -- if I remember it even seemed like Fowler gave up on it at first -- but it was straightaway CF and 390 to CF is an out. Either of those is a fraction of an inch or a fraction of a second away from a HR.

That said he's also swung at a few bad pitches, is striking out too much and, yes, is not squaring the ball up often enough. Alas, we could say that about most of the Cubs' starters right now as Bryant is the only one with an OPS+ above 100. So maybe it's time to shake things up a bit and put Jay or Zobrist or Happ or LaStella into the leadoff spot for a while, let Schwarber get things together in the #5 or #6 hole, maybe swap Rizzo and Bryant for a bit.

I'm on the Schwarber party bus. I traded for him in my dynasty sim league. I just hope he goes on a tear soon because next year's team needs a thumper.

Had 2 hits last night - his first multi-hit game in a while - including the longest measured HR of his career (though, I'm not sure how that one was further than the WC one or the scoreboard one, but I'm not statcastitician). So, he was a click closer, though you'd think that's easier to do against Arroyo's mid-70s stuff (the HR was on a 74mph something).
