LA Times: Andre Ethier irritated by questions about Sydney playing surface

It just wouldn’t be spring without a grumpy ‘Dre.

SYDNEY, Australia—As much as bombastic Dodgers President Stan Kasten tries to convince people otherwise, it’s clear not all of his players like the idea of starting their season on the other side of the world.

Working out at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Tuesday turned the usually affable Andre Ethier into the moody Andre Ethier of years past. Without the slightest trace of a smile, a clearly irritated Ethier sarcastically recited the company line.

“Glad to be here,” Ethier said. “Fun trip. This is a good time. Great for baseball. Good for Australia. Happy to be here, guys.”

usually affable Andre Ethier

Ethier is the Dodger I'd least expect to be called "affable." This is the guy who has been known to flip off fans.

Perhaps the BBTF Down Under Brigade will be able to cheer him up.

Isn't even short grass on top of a clay surface still softer than field turf?

Phil Coorey, myself and a few others will be at both games; and we will be sure to give Andre and Zack a most cheerful Sydney welcome!

What a bunch of babies some of the Dodgers have been over this. I'm sure it's not all of them...probably just a few actually. But still.....little doubt which team the home crowd will be rooting for.

[4] Zack is still in Arizona.

I wonder if Ethier will end up being the odd man out watching Crawford, Kemp and Puig.
