LA Times: Angels Unplugged: Why Mike Scioscia won’t switch

Why won’t Mike Scioscia move the struggling Vladimir Guerrero out of the cleanup spot?

Well, after being around the team most of the season and spending considerable time with the manager, here is why I’m convinced it’s not going to happen during this postseason:

—Two of the next three ALCS games will be started by Yankees left-handers, meaning that Kendry Morales, the logical new cleanup hitter, would be swinging from the right side instead of from the left, where he has been far more effective.

...

—The timing isn’t right. In case you haven’t noticed, Scioscia isn’t one to make dramatic changes easily.

...

—Guerrero always has been treated—how shall we put this?—delicately with the Angels.

...

—There was always some unstated concern that the proud Guerrero would react angrily if you moved him down in the lineup the way the Red Sox moved David Ortiz.

Scioscia wouldn't bench Howie Kendricks last year when it clear he wasn't healthy and infective. Scioscia's as stubborn a guy you'll see today.

Bisheff has been obsessing about this triviality for months. Left mostly unremarked is the reason Scioscia actually gives -- doesn't want to put premature pressure on Morales.

How about not pinchhitting with GMJr?

Bisheff is horrible. Matt's first sentence describes his entire schtick pretty well. Let's also not forget that a few years ago, this guy wanted the Angels to ditch Juan Rivera and sign Carl Everett to a long term deal.

Someone could write this stuff for free for the Times. Or better.

How about not pinch-hitting for your third-best hitter?
