In terms of personal fandom and rooting for the underdog/long-denied team/player, this is probably the worst possible postseason outcome for me.

Oakland-Milwaukee/Colorado would have been great. Boston and Los Angeles is just awful.

Titanic, in like it's going to sink? I agree with what #1 says, except any World Series is not awful. It's the World Series.

Who doesn't want to watch Betts, Kershaw, Sale, Turner, JBJ, Bellinger, Machado?

agree, among the potential matchups, this or a lad vs nyy was clearly the worst possible matchup that anyone that is a fan of baseball would hope wouldn't happen.

I wanted the mil/oak series, but pretty much any other team outside of La, Bos, and NYY would have been something I would have enjoyed.... of course this result was the most predictable result out there, it's almost like an NBA or even an NFL post season result, where the most predictable result happened.

I was hoping for Cubs-Astros, though caspian’s outcomes would also have been fun.

However, as it is, it’s the AL’s best record who beat the defending champs in the ALCS, against the NL’s defending champs who beat the best record in the NLCS. That at least makes for a strong Series. The worst outcome (from the perspective of mid-September) would have been Cardinals-Yankees both getting through as Wild Cards. Actually that would always be the worst World Series :)

although seeing Aaron Judge try for a stolen base with 2 outs in the 9th inning of Game 7 against a drunk Adam Wainwright would be fun no matter how it turned out
:)

Once I was reminded that both teams had switched leagues, I was hoping for a Brewers-Astros matchup.

The Red Sox vs. the Dodgers is nothing exciting for me, but I will still watch at least some of it.

So the ship will sink and both teams will die? Sounds grim and yet fitting somehow.

Not that this makes any sense, but although I was rooting for the Brewers in the NLCS, I'd rather see a Red Sox-Dodgers matchup than a Red Sox-Brewers. Makes it much easier to pick a team to root for. And with a handful of exceptions (KC and the Astros) I'm not a big fan of seeing expansion teams hang around in the postseason.

Braves: 1995 (1999)

The Braves were good for so long, it seems weird that it's almost 20 years since they played in the WS.

This is from a Cardinals fan. CARDINALS.

I dunno. When Cinderella teams get into the World Series, people complain that baseball is random. When strong champions get in, people claim that it's boring. I just hope it's not the same people :)

Clearly you didn't get the memo that the Red Sox have been DISRESPECTED! and DOUBTED! from Opening Day until they won the ALCS.

Still a lot of bad blood between these teams from the 1916 Series.

Bulletin Board material for the Dodgers, courtesy of 1916 Red Sox pitcher G.H. Ruth:

I hope the announcers go all out and every single thing that happens in the series is described like "Clayton Kershaw is now the first Dodger to strike out four Red Sox in a World Series game since Jeff Pfeffer in 1916". "Xander Bogaerts is the first Red Sox player to walk three times against the Dodgers in a World Series game since Hick Cady in 1916." "Sandy Leon is the first Red Sox player to go 0 for 5 and eat 5 hot dogs in a World Series game against the Dodgers since Babe Ruth in 1916."

I don't see why this matchup would really be that much worse than many other of the options, unless you're going to always feel that way about big market or high payroll teams (or just hate anytime it's not your team). Even with the annoying Red Sox fandom stuff that is probably the biggest reason to not want the Red Sox involved, this is a pretty different team than the last one that was there. Both teams really have a ton of exciting talent, and can be quite enjoyable to watch at their best; I know the NLCS wasn't exactly eye candy, but a lot of that is on the Brewers IMO.

Around Game 4: "Red Sox starting pitchers have now combined for 14 innings pitched, the same number Babe Ruth threw against the Dodgers in one game in 1916. Of course, with that kind of workload, Ruth was essentially finished as a pitcher at age 24."

Using the Babe Ruth Translator for "eating hot dogs," this means Sandy Leon got chlamydia, right?

Not quite.

1 hot dog = mono
2 hot dogs = herpes
3 hot dogs = gonorrhea
4 hot dogs = chlamydia
5 hot dogs = dysentery

This is a tough matchup for me to decide who to root for. Now that the Astros are an AL team (still seems wrong) I suppose I would normally pull for Boston, but there would be something kind of, I don't know, pleasing about the Dodgers coming all the way back and finishing the job this year, especially if Kershaw does well. On the other hand, all my years of absolutely despising the Dodgers (this means you Garvey and Lasorda!) make it hard to ever root for them. Jeez, the trauma they inflicted on Houston over the years.
