Buddy of mine posted "It's freezing in San Francisco" :)
Yup. That's another .0325 championships added (give or take). He's cementing his all-time lead.

Anyhow, OT, I missed the first game because I went to go see a collection of short films, "Stars in Shorts". Anyone other than me catch it? It's up and down, seven short films, but really worth seeing.
Should have waited until later in the game when it would have been worth more.
Really?
24 was one of the worst of those. Never any traffic in LA somehow!
Nope but it looks interesting.
So who are the active players in the top 10 or so? Any of them still playing? How many championships added has Raul racked up so far this postseason?
Oof, can't walk him there though.
I imagine with the premise of the show that was a necessity I guess. I think some of these writers have never actually bothered to look at a clock/watch when travelling. And it's clear that they don't deal with high traffic cities like Washington DC(NCIS) Los Angeles etc.
nuclear device goes off in a suburb of L.A. and it is never mentioned again, IIRC.
Well, among hitters. There are a whole lot of pitchers with more. But Freese was the second-ranked hitter after last year, and if my math is correct, he passed Mantle for first among hitters during the LDS.
Or, if you were asking about the specific calculation, it's .209 WPA * .3125 leverage for the game in the series * .5 leverage for the series in winning a title.
I understand that, but what is wrong with putting the right times in there.
I usually don't mind those issues but with 24 I couldn't get past it. I think it's because the clock was so instrumental to the plot. I mean with NCIS of Ziva and Tony take an hour or two hours to get somewhere its not really a big deal.
Also, in literature, I never could get "Catcher in the Rye" to work for me as just one Saturday night in New York. Seemed like a 20-hour evening.
Not about the specific calculation(although that is great information). I knew he was up there, but wasn't sure where he placed.
Small potatoes: Last Resort has Pakistan's largest cities get nuked by the US Navy in the first episode and it has since become, at best, a sub-plot.
I have it all DVRed but I haven't watched any yet. I almost don't know if I should bother since it seems like it may get cancelled before it even really gets going.
I enjoyed the first two episodes of that and Revolution. In both cases the third episode took a bit a turn that I didn't care for. Not so much plot but tone of the show.
I mean, MASH rarely dealt with battle strategy and diplomacy - it was about a hospital.
haven't watched it yet, haven't decided if I'm going to or not.
While it does seem like it's probably doomed for cancellation, I more worry about the fact that the series has yet to live even close to it's pilot's promise.
Elongated Jeter discussion [X]
Before last year, there were no active hitters in the top 10. After last year, the active hitters in the top 10 were:
2. Freese
4. Berkman
10. Pujols
There's one active pitcher in the top 10. No points for guessing who it is. Other recent pitchers near the top of the list are:
6. Schilling
7. Smoltz
11. Mike Stanton. Really.
Ibanez had .469 series probability added in the LDS, which translates to .117 championship probability, and yesterday's game was worth another .088. So coming into today, that's .205 championships added this year. (Which puts him into barely-positive territory for his career so far; he was pretty bad in the 2000, '10, and '11 playoffs, and decent in '09.)
Isn't a large part of that lack of offense from the Giants and pretty decent pitching also from the Giants?
True, but MASH wasn't a straight serial drama (at least, not until near the end). And just having a war going on is completely different than A NUCLEAR WAR GOING ON. It'd be like if an alternate-universe MASH ignored the time that alternate-universe MacArthur nuked alternate-universe Beijing.
It's worse than that, this was a sub plot created in the show, so it should have some reason for being there. I'm a comic book fan and it always bothers me that in continuity they would have something happen to a major city, but a few years later it gets forgotten as they reference real world events to compare things to, when other events in that universe is much worse.
yep and how many miles were put on that car in that time frame?
I'm copying an idea that a guy at work had:
Any new continuous drama* has to be picked up for the second season before I invest any time in watching it. If it is picked up, and I like the premise, I'll download the first season and watch it in the summer. If it didn't get picked up, I haven't wasted any time.
Any new comedy has to make it at least 6 episodes before I'll give it a shot.
*By continuous, I mean that it isn't a crime procedural with a new "case-of-the-week" format. "Elementary" is one of those. "Revolution" and "Last Resort" are the continuous kind I'm going to wait on. I've been burned on too many one-and-done (or cancelled early) dramas the past few years.
But by that philosophy you would never had the pleasure of Firefly.
Mind you, I'm somewhat in the same boat. I haven't watched walking dead or Game of thrones yet.
Two shows really pissed me off last year. Awake and Ringer were both shows I was enjoying that got axed.
True. But I'm sure the nerd herd would have alerted me to it at some point.
All the shows I liked last year that got the axe, were probably pretty crappy shows(but I still liked them) Chaos, Finder and a few others.
I almost wonder if maybe the "hook" at the end of the season will be that the Pakistan events end up being a Chekov's gun that triggers WWIII and that Season Two onward (if the series is somehow renewed) will be a post-apocalyptic, On The Beach kind of deal.
170-something, if memory serves.
Awake was the last one I jumped in feet-first to watch from the beginning.
After only a couple episodes, I knew it was too different for network TV, so I resigned myself to it getting canned.
Game of Thrones is going to have bigger problems than getting cancelled. In three or four years they'll be out of material and Martin will be 1/5th of the way through the next book.
See, I enjoyed Awake a lot, and even though it was cancelled, I'm happy to have seen the season that aired.
I thought it was more, but I looked it up and it was 301 7/10ths from an original 126 3/4. I just assumed it was a lot more, that sounds like almost no miles at all in a day.
You may update your own spreadsheets accordingly.
Are we drawing a distinction between "handsome" and "sexy?" Matheny was most handsome, right?
Bumgarner is not so hot on holding runners.
I have checked and she indicates you are correct, and that I should be keeping seperate spreadsheets.
I was confused since Tyler Clippard is apparently both handsomest and sexiest National (usual caveats about Jayson Werth getting a proper haircut apply)
Absolutely agree, I do not know why they think that a close up is more exciting than a distance view that shows more scenery. Mind you, I've noticed action movies doing this a lot more lately and it's equally as frustrating. Action works better when you have a frame of reference. In the NFL broadcast they don't zoom into the running back.
And now the Federalist strikes.
Not at all. The next book is going to be covered in two seasons and I'm sure they can extend that as necessary for books 4-5.
Jay has been perfectly fine, he's not a great player but he gets on base, can hit the occasional double, and plays averagish defense. He is a respectable major league starter.
Jon Jay has a three foot lead and he's going back to first on the pitch. It's weird.
Of course if Beltran is going to do that, then he should just stand on first.
