Wow. Has anyone ever come back from a 6-0 deficit in a postseason game before?
   602. Guts Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4270294)
Am I correct that this chatter appears to be all Cardinals fans and neutrals, with no Giants fans?

I assumed they're at the game.

I totally should have had "Carlos Beltran, Post-Season God" on the checklist.
   604. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4270296)
I'm always surprised at home fans who are excited to catch an opposing home run ball in the playoffs. To each his own but I'd be pissed.
   605. phredbird Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4270297)
BELTRAN!!!

Game of Thrones is going to have bigger problems than getting cancelled. In three or four years they'll be out of material and Martin will be 1/5th of the way through the next book.

Not at all. The next book is going to be covered in two seasons and I'm sure they can extend that as necessary for books 4-5.

On top of that, they could always take a page out of anime and veer from the source material. Full Metal Alchemist was completed as a TV show before half the books were done and they came up with a good plot. Then they were able to milk it by coming up with a second anime based upon the tv show, in which the first half of the episodes were almost exactly the same as the first series.
   607. VoodooR Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:32 PM (#4270299)
Well any head-to-head starting pitching edge the Giants had because the Cardinals had to open with Lynn appears to be gone.
   608. boteman Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:32 PM (#4270300)
It's over.

#595 - I'm rooting for the SF Giants, if only to hear MOAR JON MILLER!

The timing gets weird. The first two-thirds or so of 5 take place at the same time as 4. They're going to need more material by the time 4 is over or some characters will disappear.

The Nats fans who wished for the destruction of the STL team plane had to dig around in the closet for their Giants caps. They'll be back in a bit.

There have been multiple stories regarding Martin having every intention to get the next book out fast enough not to screw with the new-found fandom of the series. I mean, it's not a given he'll SUCCEED, but he has flat-out acknowledged he's going to be working with that in mind.

Yeah, not a lot of giant fans. Too wound up to post?

HOLY CRAP what a catch. He's lucky he didn't also break his ankle.
   615. cardsfanboy Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:34 PM (#4270309)
Jay has been perfectly fine, he's not a great player but he gets on base, can hit the occasional double, and plays averagish defense. He is a respectable major league starter.

That is the way I looked at him, but he's probably better than that. His defense has improved(although I think he's playing deeper now to compensate for the fact that he always takes his first step in the wrong direction) his consistency is nearly Adam Dunn freakish.

BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+

.300 .359 .422 .780 113
.297 .344 .424 .768 112
.305 .373 .400 .773 113

You expect improvement or for the league to catch up to him, but he just goes out and does the same thing.

That was my first thought, but then I remember that this is in the fourth inning and not the third :)

What is there to say about this pathetic pitching performance? It is not just the bad location on crucial pitches, it is the constant nibbling after two strikes, the inability to hold runners on, and the slumbering Giants bats. It is hard to post on here and scream curse words at the top of your lungs.

That was esoteric I believe, who I have not seen around today. .

I am here, but am mostly relaying my wife's comments on players hotness.

I guess I am rooting for the giants, but whatever really, The Cardinals are a really fun team.

I am rooting for the Tigers overall, but with no great enthusiasm.

   628. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4270323)
It's the fourth inning. I'd expect Miller to be back for the fifth. I don't remember whether he does 1-2, 5, 8-9 or 1-2, 5-6, 9. Teams vary on that.

I was thinking about that, hopefully he doesn't fall apart after that hit and relax because he has a lead.

about to post need a strikeout of Sandoval for a bingo.

Other bingo's needed one is a definite Two+ pitcher changes for the Giants, the other is possible a Kozma walk.

The two teams know that they have no shot at winning if they hold a lead outside of the ninth inning, so are trying to give their opponent the lead and we have LINCECUM, a regular season starter, IN THE PEN [X].
   651. Bourbon Samurai Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:50 PM (#4270355)
6-3.

Buck sounds like a guy doing his second day of the game. He's not the best announcer in the world but he's usually technically competent. He's stunning over words and misreading batted balls more than he usually does.

And we got a game again.

I know the numbers don't bear it out, but I never am comfortable with Lynn the second or third time through the lineup.
   656. Guts Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4270361)
I mean, Lynn is 3-0 on Brandon Crawford, who is famous for not being able to hit even a little bit. This is ridiculous.

Baseball, everyone!
   658. Guts Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:53 PM (#4270364)
Sigh. Why is Lynn still in there? He has been clearly out of gas for the last 4 hitters. This is Grady Little territory.
   659. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:53 PM (#4270365)
The Cards didn't ave anyone warming yet? Managers are being much too passive this post season in my opinion.

The strike zone has somewhat tightened up here.

I hope this post-seaon doesn't get into Lynn's head for next year. Between this and Garcia's injury, I think they're going to have to sign Lohse.

   669. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4270376)
On the bright side for the Cardinals, Bumgarner is clearly not going to pitch well again this year. He was bad in September, too.
   670. Lassus Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4270377)
I wish we had an ump or four who were cool enough to make an "oh please" face while signaling no swing on the ones that aren't even close.
   671. Guts Posted: October 14, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4270378)

That is what I was about to say sorta. McCarver goes when he is right he is tough to hit.

You want to know what's tough to hit, a pitcher who is throwing a ball and has no ####### clue where it's going like Lincecum.

Back to back creepy commercials.

Tell me truly, do you think the guy driving the annoying singing girl in the Chevy commercial is her father, or her abductor?

Some good commercials for products I won't use. Like the Sansung dig at Apple, like those google chrome ads and I think I'm in love with the babe on the motorcycle counting cell phone towers.
