LCS Day 3: Cardinals at Giants

So, the Cardinals have won game one. Judging by the NLDS, this means the Giants are just biding their time, or something like that.

GAMES TODAY:
St. Louis Cardinals (Chris Carpenter) @ San Francisco Giants (Ryan Vogelsong). 8:00 PM, FOX.

Man, I'm glad to see Pravda is still around here when it comes to the Cards.

Much as I hate to harsh on the Cardinal hate, there was a slow-motion gif of the slide posted last page. If there's any Pravda-doing in this thread, it ain't STL fans doing it.

Tonight's chat is remarkably tedious.

What is the context here?

The Cardinals led the division until July 27, four days before the Furcal acquisition. Speaking only about his own role, Theriot noted, "When I was playing shortstop we were in first place. I know that. It is what it is."

Standing up to cancer commercial..... I found from experience that the best piece of advice to give a kid trying to hit a ball that way, is not 'keep your hands up' but really to push the 'keep your eye on the ball, follow it to the bat'. That advice also works when playing catch.

Mike Krukow: "Vogelsong's not much of a hitter."

Famous last words.

This was the first baseball game I ever went to with Amazing GF.

That was 5 years ago; if she's truly Amazing, you should sign her to one of those long-term contracts.

   312. Guts Posted: October 15, 2012 at 10:15 PM (#4271963)
Yep. Not much to say about this game, it's over - Giants are smoking everything and Cards can't make solid contact off Vogelsong.

Maybe we should feed Theriot some meatballs, let him hit a HR or something, if he can hit it hard enough, and hope Bochy gives him more ABs later in the series.

He should have at least one more arbitration year left. Why lock up to long term contract this early?

Additionally, the 7-year itch is actually a 4-year itch. If it's lasted this long without a contract, just go month-to-month and be happy.

The Cardinals led the division until July 27, four days before the Furcal acquisition. Speaking only about his own role, Theriot noted, "When I was playing shortstop we were in first place. I know that. It is what it is."

And the quote was made in the middle of their September run, the implication being that he should be starting in front of Furcal, since at that point the Cardinals, no longer in first, were in the hunt for "only" the Wild Card.

I feel great! I have found the rare postseason game where my alcohol consumption balances my team's shitty performance.
   319. salvomania Posted: October 15, 2012 at 10:23 PM (#4271973)
Likewise, re: the alcohol. This is the first night of the postseason I haven't had multiple drinks. I know what I have to do Wednesday.

EDIT: That is, no alcohol, no Cardinal performance.

   323. Guts Posted: October 15, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4271981)
Chambers almost destroyed the behind the ump cam. Would have justified his roster spot.

As a lifetime AL fan I get Yankee hate. They have the money. They win all the time. They buy everything. So goes the argument. I don't get Cardinal hate. Cardinal envy I get, getting tired of getting our a$$es beat by the Cardinals syndrome I get, the hate I do not. Is there some Cardinalness or Cardinality that causes it? Is it the fans? The announcers? Ownership? Please explain to the ignorant.

Say, since it seems that GBA is now mandated during the postseason by MLB, what would Toronto play if they ever made the playoffs again?

Maple Leaf Forever?

That was a bullshit call. The Cardinals already get two whiny broadcasters pitching for them; the home plate umpire too?
   348. nick swisher hygiene Posted: October 15, 2012 at 10:39 PM (#4272013)
It's the poor records in weak divisions, it's the way they always pick up white guys who have good years, it's the way their role players always seem to have good playoffs.

Their whole strategy seems to be, let's have a bunch of guys all get hot in October and we'll win the WS. And it ####### works. That's ########.

You do realize that Joe Buck was shocked by the call and nearly called the umps out on it, then went into praise of Shelby Miller instead.

They actually did play GBA America at Skydome for a while in 2001. I can't remember how long it lasted (I can only find oblique references to it happening), but it did happen and was generally seen as a fiasco.

If the Jays did make the playoffs, they'd probably play this.

Wilson is a little too busy playing a character. Its gotten old, but he attract the non-baseball type fan out here who knows little about baseball but knows Lincecum and that beard guy.
