LCS DAY 7 CHATTER: NLCS GAME 6

Can the Giants survive another day? Will the Cardinals get the chance to defend their title? Will any of the Tigers get hurt playing the Instructional Leaguers?

St. Louis Cardinals (Carpenter) @ San Francisco Giants (Vogelsong), 7:30, FOX. Cardinals lead 3-2.

Greetings from the other side of the planet.

I'm very excited for Game 6, though I won't be able to watch it at all. I'll have Gameday open on my computer at work, and switch back and forth from time to time. Hopefully I'll be able to slyly participate in this thread as well.

Oh, how I hope the Cardinals lose this series.

My wife and I are leaving beautiful San Francisco (I'm typing this as we wait for our redeye at gate 58a in SFO) just as the Giants fans are getting ready to rock AT&T park. Bummer. But if anything can turn to you into an instant Giants fan, it's a trip here. Get us a game 7, Voglesong!

Looking like a decent chance of rain tomorrow. And if it gets that far, Monday is currently 90% chance of rain.

Looks like 10% chance of rain at the moment for today's game. That likely mean fog and light mist if anything. Good tickets on stubhub for around 120. Thinking of going...

Ok. See you guys at the ballpark!!!

As the good dr. said, it's not going to really start until after the game and it should be mostly out of here by early afternoon on Monday. So both games, if necessary, should be OK. Might see a brief shower if it gets to game 7, but that should be it.

A bit off topic... Not sure where to ask this, but for some reason I cannot log on BBTF on my iPhone. Does antone else have this issue? Fine on any number of computers and iPads.

I have a strange feeling this game will be epic. Recording it here for posterity.

I had dream last night that I was watching the scorelesss game in the first inning with my GF and I left the room to get a drink, came back, and the Giants were down 6-0 after a maximum 15-second absence.

Just FYI, not a prediction. I also had a dream I was talking to Walter Bishop about remodeling my house.

If they lose 3 games started by Vogelsong and Zito, they'd deserve to.

Ok, let's do this. Do not expect to win this game. Birdsong just seems invincible and scary.

Holliday out with back tightness. He is not exactly contributing this series, but obviously this is not good news.

Holiday scratched, lower back stiffness.

I am no fan of pre-game shows, but using the MLB Network set and indoor diamond, while breaking down plays from earlier in the series is a solid way to go. Well done Fox

This FOX pre-game show is the worst thing I have ever seen in my entire life.

I disagree. I like it when ex-jocks are called upon to talk about (and in this case, demonstrate) on-field technique. It's the one thing they tend to do very well.

EDIT: Coke to Tommy Lasorda hater
   23. Lassus Posted: October 21, 2012 at 07:35 PM (#4278260)
The Kingston Trio.

I would like this arrangement if they were doing a better job with it.

You know, I had to mute it before that part, which I did watch with the sound off. In my defense, I've had it on since the start.

You don't have my facebook feed then... People are glad holliday is out...and even funnier someone posted a proposed lineup of Jay, Koz,Beltran,Carpenter,Double D,Holliday,Yadi,Freeze, and Darth Carp. And people actually liked it.... SMH. And he's one of the real Cardinal fans.

I love Fox if they have anything to do with the game not starting yet. Right now Canada's sports station is showing a Jaguars/Raiders game that's about to go to overtime and there's just a bar at the bottom of the screen saying "NLCS Game 6 Coming Up Next".
   29. Hey - you and Tommy Lasorda...I hate Tommy Lasorda Posted: October 21, 2012 at 07:38 PM (#4278268)
Haven't followed the Kingston Trio's work recently. If you had bet me 10 min ago they were singing the anthem and it would be excellent, I would have lost lots of money going the other way.

You wouldn't have if I were judging. For the 10-15 measures they were all on their proper pitches, it was fine. Otherwise, no.

If not an unfriending offense, that's at least an off-the-homepage sin.

Hey, it's Jerry Lane.

In fairness I'm tone deaf so I'm pretty useless on such matters. Doesn't stop me from opining of course.

So both Rosenthal and McCarver agree that BP before a start is different than before a game when you ate on the bench but either wants to tell me WHY that is. The difference between the work MLB network does and the work done by every other station is pretty dramatic.
   43. Guts Posted: October 21, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4278297)
Ugh. Not sure I can watch another game of the Cards making lousy contact with Vogelsong's fastball. Plus, Craig is mired in a terrible slump.
   44. Austin Posted: October 21, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4278298)
A very TTO start for Vogelsong. Now we just need Freese or someone to hit a home run next inning.

I've lived in the Bay Area for a little over four years now. It was pretty cool being in SF when they won in 2010, but I didn't have very much invested in the Giants. Since then, I've been to a bunch more games (including the Cain perfect game), and it's just impossible not to like this team now.

So they're still my #3 team, but I am starting to really feel like a Giants fan.

   67. cardsfanboy Posted: October 21, 2012 at 08:07 PM (#4278331)

c'mon. jay makes his share of his plays

He does, but he takes a terrible route frequently. I don't think I've ever seen a centerfielder make as many mistakes on where the ball is going off of the bat than Jay. But he has very sure hands, has a never say die attitude, and will take the risky play where others play it more safe. It equals out, and in this year, it's actually made him a plus fielder. But it doesn't change the fact that he constantly takes either the wrong step or the less than optimal route to the ball.
   68. Guts Posted: October 21, 2012 at 08:09 PM (#4278332)
