LCS OMNICHATTER DAY 6: ALCS GAME 4 REDUX and NLCS GAME 4 and BASEBALL VS. RAIN

New York Yankees (Sabathia) @ Detroit Tigers (Scherzer), 4:00 PM ET, TBS. Game 4 (DET leads 3-0, would clinch WS berth with win)... hang on, didn’t I type roughly this YESTERDAY? Oh, right, I did. BTW, 60% chance of rain tomorrow, although apparently it will be gone by 4. If not, I’m sure Miller Park’s grounds crew is on call and ready for action

San Francisco Giants (Lincecum) @ St. Louis Cardinals (Wainwright), 8:00 PM ET, FOX. Game 3 (STL leads 2-1). 30% chance of rain.

Action Jackson strikes again!

And Girardi trots out his bench players: Nix, Stewart, and Granderson(!)

So Jeter did not travel with the ballclub, but what about Soriano?
   204. Tim D Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:10 PM (#4275945)
If Jackson was still in NY Sterling would be doing "Austin powers one." I do remember the Yankee fans, this board included, crowing big time about this trade. I also remember tose who had Jackson gone from the league within a year when anyone could see his mechanics were a wreck. Waggling the bat, big kick, exaggerated toe-tap. He cut all that crap down and it tightened up his swing a lot. He still strikes out too much and still is a low percentage SB guy but he plays great D and has added some power. A real plus player now.
   205. bunyon Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:10 PM (#4275946)
Game 1 of the World Series may be lost when Valverde comes in and gets the Yanks in order in the ninth, thus reclaiming the closer role.
   206. asinwreck Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:10 PM (#4275947)
Wonder if the NY media will question the Jackson-Granderson trade in their accounts of this game.
   207. fra paolo Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:11 PM (#4275948)
Hmm, that graphic belies my bullpen fears.
   208. fra paolo Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:14 PM (#4275951)
Mr Swisher's Magic Bat didn't work for him that time.
   209. fra paolo Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:17 PM (#4275953)
Prince Fielder lived up to his name that time.

Jim Joyce thinks Cano was safe.

Guys who wait until the playoffs to give 100% is the new market inefficiency. :D

I'm pretty sure that's the most range I've ever seen Fielder display.
   212. JJ1986 Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:20 PM (#4275956)
0 for Cano
   213. Gamingboy Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:21 PM (#4275957)
I don't think Andy's pitching tomorrow, John.
   214. Gamingboy Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:23 PM (#4275959)
Jhonny Peralta is just rubbing it in now.

Peralta!

Is it safe to bring in Valverde? I mean, assuming that you start warming someone else up right away.
   217. Tim D Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:25 PM (#4275964)
J-honny should be MVP ahead of Delmon...

NEGATIVE

I'm mostly excited for this to end so I can listen to Jon Miller call the SF game.... which, I hope he is, on the radio, as I have no idea.

Really? You know if it was Arod who was injured and didn't travel with the team it would be big news.

Still more than Jeter normally. :)

   226. Harry Balsagne's transparent jealousy Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:34 PM (#4275975)
It would've been more appropriate for ARod to make the last out.
   227. Austin Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:35 PM (#4275976)
I think it's actually even more appropriate that third baseman Jayson Nix is probably going to do it instead.

EDIT: And it's done.

And Yankee fans may not feel it but a division title and an LCS berth is not a bad season.

   231. Tim D Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:36 PM (#4275981)
Cool! Not often you get to heat the Yanks, let alone a sweep!
   232. J. Michael Neal Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:37 PM (#4275982)
I'm seeing Scherzer listed as getting the win but, honestly, the guy gave up a run and it wasn't even in the 9th inning. That's pretty weak.
   233. Gamingboy Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:37 PM (#4275983)
Okay, what does the back page read tomorrow morning?

   236. JE (Jason Epstein) Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:38 PM (#4275986)
Really? You know if it was Arod who was injured and didn't travel with the team it would be big news.

The media gasbags would have said, "You know the Captain would have been there with his teammates, no matter what."
   237. formerly dp Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:40 PM (#4275988)

Lincecum career vs Cardinals 5-1,2.89

Man, I sure hope so. The Giants' starting pitching has been lousy all postseason. They need a big-time return to top form by Lincecum here, very badly. I fear that the Giants are on fumes.

   258. JL Posted: October 18, 2012 at 07:59 PM (#4276011)
So is it safe to put Valverde in now?

After looking, I see the Tigers and Giants have never met in the WS, so I am rooting SF.

Delmon Young ... Class Act!!!

EDIT: Never mind!
   267. Guts Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:11 PM (#4276027)
Ok, let's do this.

Wainwright dealing so far, extremely small sample.
   268. Guts Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:19 PM (#4276032)
Please, please stop with the behind the ump cam. Why do we have to deal with some stupid gimmick every year?
   269. salvomania Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:20 PM (#4276033)
Yeah, Waino seems to have great command of the curve, which is usually a sign that the Good Adam has shown up.

It has it purpose, but at no point in time is one of those purposes "during the pitch".

   271. Guts Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:21 PM (#4276035)
Timmeh looks...less sharp.
   272. cardsfanboy Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:21 PM (#4276036)
Not looking good for Lincecum. Of course the Cardinals offense often times will have one inning where it shows up, then the other 8 innings where it goes out of it's way to give the other team a chance to catch up.
   273. cardsfanboy Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:23 PM (#4276038)
Yes, Holliday with the single and run driven in. Do the Giants have someone warming up?
   274. Guts Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:23 PM (#4276039)
I thought that was a DP, glad to be wrong. Couldn't ask for a better start.
   275. Gamingboy Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:24 PM (#4276040)
Timsaster.
   276. Guts Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:25 PM (#4276042)
Craig pressing, Pujols style. Don't help out Timmeh! He can't find the zone.

Is it too early for "It's over"???

Lincecum's season is just a total mystery. Very curious as to what happens next year.

I read an article the other day about the trade that brought Jackson to the Tigers and Granderson to the Yankees. Of course, there was also Scherzer. But the author said Jackson >> Granderson.
   280. Guts Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:28 PM (#4276048)

Timmeh's breaking stuff looks pretty good, but he is not locating the fastball at all. When he does get it over, it's getting hit.

Not by Descalso, though. Sigh.
