LCS OMNICHATTER DAY 6: ALCS GAME 4 REDUX and NLCS GAME 4 and BASEBALL VS. RAIN

New York Yankees (Sabathia) @ Detroit Tigers (Scherzer), 4:00 PM ET, TBS. Game 4 (DET leads 3-0, would clinch WS berth with win)... hang on, didn’t I type roughly this YESTERDAY? Oh, right, I did. BTW, 60% chance of rain tomorrow, although apparently it will be gone by 4. If not, I’m sure Miller Park’s grounds crew is on call and ready for action

San Francisco Giants (Lincecum) @ St. Louis Cardinals (Wainwright), 8:00 PM ET, FOX. Game 3 (STL leads 2-1). 30% chance of rain.

Let's just pretend Wainwright struck out and Kozma got much lankier and slower.

Let's just pretend Wainwright struck out and Kozma got much lankier and slower.

That works for me.

####! This makes that moronic CS even worse.

Krukow praising Hector Sanchez for forcing Timmeh to throw that pitch again, and he got it where he wanted that second time. Then he followed with the fastball for a disaster.
   305. boteman Posted: October 18, 2012 at 08:52 PM (#4276087)
He's blaming Kozma for that steal attempt?

I know a Nats fan who blames Kozma for war, pestilence, and the general agonies of daily life. It works for me.

So, that cost a run, basically. At least. ####### awesome.

I have seen Pence hit several homers, I assure you, but it was a little surprising given that Eckstein choke.

Except that Pence always holds the bat that way.

Damn not quite enough of the ball. Still looking like Lincecum doesn't really have it tonight. (of course the altar of Dips would say that doesn't matter)

Blathering about Gussie Busch's horseshoes is almost a Jack Buck ref ([x])(small x, j/k)

I don't know about a missed sign, but the way Wainwright gave up on the pitch right away makes me think Kozma was on a straight steal there. And if he was, and it came from Matheny, that was a mistake.

Standup triple.
Did Buck say Pagan "is a guy who can skate?" as he rounded the bases? Did I hear that?

I thought he said "scoot."

I hate the tone of that chick's voice in the Samsung commercial.

You mean the dismay and dread in her voice on the line "It's the Galaxy S3?" The way it has the same inflection you'd expect from, say, Princess Leia saying "It's Darth Vader," or the Yankee lineup saying "It's a pitcher?" Yeah, it's a bit over the top.

Doesn't look like Cards are scoring any more off Timmeh. Wainwright needs to hold the line. Timmeh's at ~65 pitches so he won't be in the game past 7 or so.

They aren't doing it the way I imagined the movies would be, but they are doing a great job. I'm also happy that the five year plan that Marvel created has inspired 20th century fox. to do the same planning with the FF and X-men franchises, although I'm not really sure how much crossover appeal those franchies would have.

Craig Wilson used to be called Thor.
   364. cardsfanboy Posted: October 18, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4276170)
First time Fox has ever used that behind the plate camera angle properly. It's a replay camera, it's a scouting report on the pitcher or for that rare play up the middle, it is not a camera angle to be used for pitches.
   365. VoodooR Posted: October 18, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4276171)

I always thought he had a reputation as a good fielder just not enough of a bat to be in the lineup everyday.

Marvel Comics did a smart thing by making Thor blonde, they can't own the name of course, but they own their likeness, and anytime someone tries to make a Thor that is blonde, they have a decent claim against them.

   374. Eric J can SABER all he wants to Posted: October 18, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4276182)
The Giants are serving as an object lesson for why you keep your starters in the lineup even if they're not playing their best. The lousy starter has a homer, and the guy who's playing in place of the other struggling starter has struck out twice and blown a play at the plate that's allowed the Cards to break the game open.

Fortunately, this lesson comes far too late to help the Yankees.
   375. Gamingboy Posted: October 18, 2012 at 09:49 PM (#4276183)
Given the fact that "baby" giants are still pretty big, I'm going to split the difference and just give the big versions of previously baby animals. Therefore, any Giants fans freaking out should look at this picture of an adult walrus and a beluga whale kissing.

Yes. Sanchez being in the lineup has nothing to do with Belt. Now if Belt were batting .600 with 3 HRs in the first three games, Bochy might have changed his mind, but otherwise this is par for the course.

He does not, however, usually hit fifth, for whatever that's worth.

Intruiging analysis by Zaun, that Lincecum was tipping his pitches. Molina seemed to know when the breaking ball was coming.
   386. VoodooR Posted: October 18, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4276199)
It skidded in on the dirt, and there was no reason for it to, since it was thrown from second base. But it still should have been handled.

He does not, however, usually hit fifth, for whatever that's worth.

He had 9 starts in the 5th spot in the order this year, which was the third most frequent spot Bochy used him in, after 7th (19 starts) and 6th (16 starts). He even batted cleanup a couple times, so batting him 5th tonight does not seem all that unusual.

Wainwright's barely got 80 pitches on him. I imagine he comes back out.

Looks like you are correct. I imagine Rosenthal will be up at the first sign of trouble.

Sorry. Your powers are waning.

Please no bunt here.

Where was Kozma hiding this swing for his entire minor league career?

Descalso + Kozma are having a nice posaseason for 7-8 hitters...

I'd say it has more to do with not wanting Posey catching 3 in a row.

Sure. But if Belt were red hot, Bochy could well have made a playoff exception and asked Posey to catch again. Especially since there was a day off in the middle of Posey's three straight starts.

Damn my bingo luck isn't working today. I'll get a bingo for sure as I need "Giants two pitching changes" for one, but that isn't nearly as fun as the other possibilities.
