Wut

Just quit. Give up. Walk off the field. It's now in embarrassing land.
   303. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 17, 2017 at 11:51 PM (#5556706)
Awesome, 1B stolen, run scores. This is like Washington all over again...
   304. PreservedFish Posted: October 17, 2017 at 11:52 PM (#5556707)
Yeah this is brutal. Sorry Cubs fans. Flags fly forever, or so I'm told.

Eh... still better than losing 18-6. I'd be in a much worse mood if Chris Taylor were 5-6 with two Hrs and two doubles.
   306. Walt Davis Posted: October 17, 2017 at 11:53 PM (#5556708)
Cub pen up to 49 pitches already, 5 outs to go.
   307. Voodoo Posted: October 17, 2017 at 11:56 PM (#5556712)
We had no business winning against the Nationals and got all the breaks. This is the comeuppance.
   308. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 17, 2017 at 11:58 PM (#5556713)
Jeez... it's only game 3! At this point in the 2004 ALCS, down 17-6, I bet the Red Sox looked pretty dejected.

So, you're saying the Cubs should take pre-game clubhouse booze shots? Kind of looks like they've already tried that. Repeatedly.
   309. Voodoo Posted: October 17, 2017 at 11:59 PM (#5556714)
Montgomery has also been awful this postseason. I've been rough on CJ, but JM has hardly been better.
   310. Voodoo Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:15 AM (#5556716)
Well, this was depressing enough, but the *crickets chirping* in this chatter just adds to the sorrow. I'm pouring a whiskey.
   311. Spahn Insane, stimulus-funded BurlyMan™ Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:17 AM (#5556717)
I'm gonna pour myself a Blanton's neat. To a(nother) good season, even if tomorrow's the end.
   312. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:18 AM (#5556718)
I'm here! I was walking home from a restaurant and listening to the radio for a while.

Jesus, how did Puig not get 2 on that one?
   313. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:19 AM (#5556719)
Cheers, Voodoo (to resolving our differences about discussing the Utley rule a few nights ago). I went out to watch the game earlier and, given the score, left early to beat the Wrigley traffic on the way home. Turns out I avoided traffic and still had a full inning left.
   314. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:19 AM (#5556720)
I still love Javy.
   315. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:19 AM (#5556721)
Maybe Baez should save that #### for a game in which his team isn't down by 5, about to go down 0-3.
   316. PreservedFish Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:19 AM (#5556722)
Stayed awake, all worth it for a BaezTag!
   317. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:20 AM (#5556724)
Talent, luck, and preparation all have favored the dodgers this series. So be it.

Anyone but Puig, soapbox away.

I take this to mean we're granted leave for pessimism and/or resignation?

Eh, whatever. I'm not one who condemns the bat flips and so on, but showing off when you're in the midst of a humiliating defeat is embarrassing.
   321. PreservedFish Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:24 AM (#5556728)
Great shot of Puig breaking into a smile while Baez is wagging his finger at him.
   322. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:25 AM (#5556729)
It's not showing off. Fun is allowed, even in defeat. In fact, it's quite sporting imo.
   323. Voodoo Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:26 AM (#5556731)
Sincerest cheers back, Face! *Clink*, Spahn. Three straight LCS appearances. Pretty incredible from where we come...
   324. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:29 AM (#5556734)
Darn it. This better not turn into a Jansen game.
   325. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:29 AM (#5556735)
Oh boy
   326. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:29 AM (#5556736)
Three straight LCS appearances. Pretty incredible from where we come...

Indeed, there are worse problems to have.

   327. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:29 AM (#5556737)
Wtf! Bullshit!
   328. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:30 AM (#5556738)
Haha. Wow, they got that right.
   329. PreservedFish Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:30 AM (#5556739)
HAHAHA holy #### what is happening
   330. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:30 AM (#5556740)
Well, this is a unique new replay situation.
   331. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:31 AM (#5556741)
Kike puts arms up, dead ball.
   332. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:31 AM (#5556742)
#### the ivy rules and #### these umpires!
   333. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:32 AM (#5556743)
He obviously knows the rule since he put his arm.

Release your renegade.

Jeep.
   334. Voodoo Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:33 AM (#5556744)
Let's make that play famous!
   335. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:33 AM (#5556745)
Scoring 2 or 3 here only makes this more painful.
   336. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:35 AM (#5556746)
So (before replay), what happens of a player raises his arm and stops going for the ball, but the ump says "no"? It seems reasonable for the player to be able to raise his arm, but go after the ball in case the ump disallows it.
   337. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:35 AM (#5556747)
The correct call is both runners stay on third, but Almora has to get on Avila's shoulders for the duration of their time there.
   338. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:35 AM (#5556748)
Throw a strike!
   339. Brian C Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:35 AM (#5556749)
These broadcasters are making this ivy play way more complicated than it needs to be. Ball goes into ivy, fielder put up his arms, that's a ground-rule double. End of story.
   340. Walt Davis Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:35 AM (#5556750)
I guess that would have been essentially the same as passing the runner in front of you except it's a tag play not an automatic out.
   341. PreservedFish Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:36 AM (#5556751)
I'm here to witness the famous comeback. Do it!
   342. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:36 AM (#5556752)
Has Jansen ever shat the bed in the postseason?
   343. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:36 AM (#5556753)
In fact, it's quite sporting imo.

Gloating when you're losing is embarrassing. I felt embarrassed for Baez.
   344. Brian C Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:36 AM (#5556754)
Why can't Addison Russell hold on to his bat?
   345. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:36 AM (#5556755)

No it isn't. Players never do or should once they put their arms up. Have never seen the ump overrule the player putting arms up.
   346. Gold Star - just Gold Star Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:37 AM (#5556756)
Russell's bat looked like it got that dude pretty good.
   347. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:37 AM (#5556757)
Gloating when you're losing is embarrassing.

In what sad reality is that gloating? Look at puigs reaction for God's sake.

I think the way that Puig smiles redeems Baez. It was two cocky players messing with each other.
   349. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:37 AM (#5556759)
Indeed, Baez is so awesome that he's being pinch-hit for.
   350. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:39 AM (#5556760)
Are we sure that Barnes didn't interfere with that last swing by LaStella?
   351. Walt Davis Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:41 AM (#5556762)
I would prefer not to waste plating 4 against Jansen tonight. Five is acceptable. :-)
   352. Brian C Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:41 AM (#5556763)
I feel like approximately 80% of the Cubs' offensive struggles in this series is swinging at pitches up around eye level.
   353. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:41 AM (#5556764)
So it goes
   354. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:41 AM (#5556765)
Huge K!!! The ivy didn't even cost a run! 3-0 series lead!!!
   355. Bote Man Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:42 AM (#5556766)
I'm curious how the umpires get their payoff? Is it a valise stuffed full of small denomination bills? Or something more...Esoteric, like free tickets to an all-expense paid cruise around the world in 80 days??
   356. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:42 AM (#5556767)
Well, they got a 9-inning game done in (slightly) less than 4 hours, so that's something.
   357. Meatwad in mourning Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:42 AM (#5556768)
####
   358. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:42 AM (#5556769)
I had a bad feeling after they only scored one in the first.

I was hoping the last series would only affect Game 1, but it really seems as though they left it all behind in DC.
   359. The Honorable Ardo Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:50 AM (#5556770)
All the people clamoring for Ian Happ got what they wished for tonight.
   360. Meatwad in mourning Posted: October 18, 2017 at 12:57 AM (#5556771)
Eh he just played like everyone else. This season is going to take some time,to decompress from. The WS party is finally ending. Was a hell of a ride.
   361. RMc's Unenviable Situation Posted: October 18, 2017 at 07:22 AM (#5556781)
It's fitting that the Yankees will win the first WS after the election of Trump.
   362. You Know Nothing JT Snow (YR) Posted: October 18, 2017 at 07:42 AM (#5556784)
Well they won the first one after the election of Obama.
   363. John DiFool2 Posted: October 18, 2017 at 08:53 AM (#5556800)
Aaron Judge - greatest athlete to wear 99!!!

Went to be bed before I saw this.

By the time Wayne Gretzky turned 25, he had 429 goals, over 1000 points, 2 championships, and 6 MVP awards.
