As a Yankees fan, I'm as excited about this team as I have been any, but the Dodgers look next level. Even if they get past the Astros, it would be hard to contend with a team that has hitters dialed in like Turner and Puig.(Puig?!) It's just their time.
   102. Walt Davis Posted: October 18, 2017 at 09:16 PM (#5557468)
Another inning that's indicative of this series. Arrieta got through unscathed but 2 baserunners and 22 pitches. It even took him 10 pitches to get the first two batters (not good, not terrible) but then wasn't able to close the inning out quickly. It's already doubtful he'll be able to go more than 5.
   103. The Yankee Clapper Posted: October 18, 2017 at 09:17 PM (#5557469)
If the Cubs don't win, there'll be no baseball tomorrow. Conflicted.
   104. Walt Davis Posted: October 18, 2017 at 09:18 PM (#5557471)
Still don't see a reason for Schwarber starting over Happ vs LHP.

Jakes stuff looks good, but the command isn't there. Kind of the story of post-god Jake I guess.

Desperation.

Huh ? Was that irony ?
The Dodgers are good, no question. Next level ? LOL
They almost epically lost their 2048 game lead in the REG season !

If the conn is for connecticut: good; if it's some military jargon... no further questions.

Yeah. Happless yet again.

10 pitches, that's more like it.
   114. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 18, 2017 at 09:28 PM (#5557481)
Dear Todgers, for a next level team, you should be up by at least 6 runs by the second inning.
Try harder, or lose all benefits !

Yours, Yankee Fan

He'd never admit it, but I think joe is starting schwarbs mostly as a vote of confidence - sort of a "you had a rough year, but you didn't pout, you put in the work, you're still our guy"

That plus, you know, he HAS provided 33% of the Cubs offense all by himself this series.

Has any team ever been swept after scoring the first run in all four games?

now, do we ALL have to put him on ignore, or is there a way to eradicate him?

I can't remember exactly who it was, but there was one frequent poster here who said recently that he enjoyed his gimmick. So the question becomes, should that BBTFer who likes AT-AT ALSO be banned forever?

Yeah, my sympathies. Been through there a few dozen times in my life, but only had it as a destination once (North Central Conference Academic Super Bowl Competition). The "Flying Tortilla of Death" one of the other kids brought from the salad bar at a Rax Roast Beef was probably the most interesting/exciting aspect of that town. Too bad it slid under the locked door of that classroom at the high school before the competition started....

On the plus side, you can go see the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. (Woo-hoo!)

Hey, the Indian food was great and the Goodwill store had a very good, very lovingly-assembled used book section. Although the mini golf course has closed for the season, it could be worse.

Out of 11 batters so far, I feel like maybe 6 or 7 have hit the ball hard? Wood doesn't look very sharp. I feel like they can get to him at some point. But I felt that way about Darvish last night too and it never happened.

Heh - believe it or not, Lassus - that's the second good review I've gotten of the Richmond goodwill book section. I've got cousin who is a big time book collector and insists on stopping at the local thrift shop in every town he visits.

I was making fun of him when we were down in Nashville for his wife's 40th b-day - he insisted on hitting a couple when we took a drive to the hermitage. Anyway, they live in Indy and I asked him what the best thrift selection was that he found in Indiana. Richmond was the answer.

Heh. Joe " not being able to use his closer" is something of a subjective statement.
   165. Brian C Posted: October 18, 2017 at 10:03 PM (#5557551)
Anderson is dreaming if he thinks Arrieta can go 7 innings. He's already at 60 IP with only one out in the fourth.

... although that double play sure helps.
   166. Voodoo Posted: October 18, 2017 at 10:03 PM (#5557552)
Jake looking pretty good!

I'm also not ready to completely start looking forward to next year.... "Don't let us win tonight", etc.

But, since we're here, and I'm thinking about it, as the season progressed I've come around to be a supporter of the re-sign Jake side of the debate. We definitely don't seem to have any obvious in-house replacements, I don't really see any FA options that offer a clearer cost/benefit-risk/reward advantage (save Otani, I suppose) and I just generally like the guy.

When the Yankees are winning the Most Boring World Series Ever (tm) in a couple of weeks, we'll all think about how Cleveland had them by the throat, and then how Houston had them by the throat. And we'll remember.

Esp. when the Dodgers blow a 3-0 lead.....

Who the hell is that John DiFool2 freak ?

Before the Quintana trade, I was leaning towards resign Jake. Now I'm a back to take it or leave it. Depends on the years mostly. If he'd go less than 5, we can probably make it work. More than 5? Probably not.

Yeah, otani is the optimal, but that's true for every single team.

I'd say Jake, Darvish, and Tanaka are fairly similarish is what they'll likely get and all have pros and cons. I haven't looked into all enough to know what the best bet there would be.

Same. But if they really are all similar bets (Darvish is going to cost the most of the bunch, right?) I'd just as soon dance with the one who brung us, so to speak.

Anyway - after otani, I go Yu (no pick), Jake (no pick, but you pick up one if not him), with Tanaka well behind (pick plus if I'm remembering right, you might be paying for at least one injury season)

   184. Moses Taylor, aka Hambone Fakenameington Posted: October 18, 2017 at 10:19 PM (#5557573)
Even if the Cubs are lucky enough to win the otani derby, they could still (should still?) Sign one of the big FA. They could go mid level if they think one of the prospect guys is closish. They have a ton of money available, but you got next year's fa class and eventually have to sign your guys. Paying Lester and someone else $25mil+ each a year in a few years might be ugly.
   185. Zonk Tormundbane Posted: October 18, 2017 at 10:20 PM (#5557575)
Yeah meats right - partially torn Ucl. It was longer ago than I remember - but just rehab and rest. Hasn't had surgery. I don't think those things ever just heal themselves fully.

Yeah, all else equal I'd agree, but I'm operating under the assumption that Yu is going to cost more (though I might be wrong about this, because I just looked it up and they are the same age when I thought Darvish was a couple years younger).
