Well, that jam got the Yankees past the heart of the order a second time, so that's not too bad.

Wow. Lucky. I was ready to go after Delmon.
   104. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 16, 2012 at 08:59 PM (#4273063)
Nope, he got himself out. That's why the Tigers will still lose the series.

Haven't seen Prince swing 3-0 all year. If he gaps it it's 2 runs.

   108. Tom Cervo, backup catcher Posted: October 16, 2012 at 09:03 PM (#4273068)
I swear Tigers have a special agreement with umpires to get pitches in the RH batters box called strikes.
   109. Cooper Nielson Posted: October 16, 2012 at 09:04 PM (#4273070)
Gary Thorne just said that Tom Brookens, who caught Jack Morris's ceremonial first pitch, was Morris's old battery mate.

I've got the international feed too (ESPN Asia) and these guys are kinda awful. Thorne is not egregiously bad but it just seems like he doesn't watch a lot of baseball. And Sutcliffe is an idiot. Both of them seem to judge pitchers 100% on W-L record.

By the way, Brookens did play 1 game at catcher (5 emergency innings of a 15 inning game) in his career. And Morris was in fact the starter in that game, but he was pulled before Brookens moved from 3B to C.

I think this is hilarious. Because the Orioles' regular PBP guy.

Ugh. I was watching/listening to the International Feed, because that way I can avoid the same commercials over and over. But I can't stand it anymore. Rick Sutcliffe is soooooo bad. Makes McCarver seem palatable.

Heh. I did not know this. I assumed he was a moonlighting hockey guy or something. :-)

Wjo was the guy who called the one game playoff with the "line drive basehit!!! Caught out there!"
   119. Gamingboy Posted: October 16, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4273085)
How many times would the Mariners have been no-hit if not for Ichiro? Out of curiosity?

Chip Caray.
   121. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 16, 2012 at 09:11 PM (#4273087)
Yankees are playing like ####, but man, it sure seems like Detroit is catching a lot of breaks. Some of these pop-ups they've caught tonight are just the kind of balls they were booting during the regular season with semi-regularity.

I don't recall that, but that sounds like a Chip Carey moment.

Because the Ichiro-cloning technology is still in beta. It accidentally spits out Kaz Matsui and Tsuyoshi Nishioka instead.

Since Prince swung away 3-0 Delmon will get a knock now.

   148. Lassus Posted: October 16, 2012 at 09:22 PM (#4273120)
I walked in just in time to see Hughes walking off. Looking at the score - and the count - what the hell happened? Injury, I guess?
   149. The John Wetland Memorial Death (CoB) Posted: October 16, 2012 at 09:22 PM (#4273122)
[148] Injury. That's why the trainer was out.
   150. Gamingboy Posted: October 16, 2012 at 09:22 PM (#4273123)
Injury. Or something. Probably A-Rod's fault.

A girl behind the dugout was throwing back a ball with her phone number on it and A-Rod biffed it and the ball hit Hughes in the arm.

The good news is that Obama is assclowning Romney so far.

Gary Thorne just said that Tom Brookens,...

I was at the CWS one year (2000? maybe), and was at a bar after the games, and convinced a drunk friend that 'Hey, look its Tom Brookens' (a really good look alike, fairly certain it wasn't him). Within seconds, drunk friend approaches, "Hey Tom! arrgghh, Tom Brookens." Hilarity ensued. The guy knew who Tom Brookens was and kind of played along w drunk friend. Had to be there.
   157. I Am Not a Number Posted: October 16, 2012 at 09:27 PM (#4273132)
Is that Romney or Paulie Walnuts?
   158. Eric J can SABER all he wants to Posted: October 16, 2012 at 09:27 PM (#4273133)
Took advantage of the break to track down Delmon's bat throw. I especially enjoyed the commentary:

"And Delmon Young just threw his bat, and the bat hit the umpire! That's a bad move by Delmon."

Maybe the Yankees should bunt every batter, see if Verlander tweaks something.

What's often forgotten is that that ump was a replacement ump. Which makes the fact there were no casualties in the NFL early this year all the more amazing.

Romney's facial expressions and body language are identical to mine anytime I'm stuck in line at the post office quietly going insane because the old lady at the front can't decide between the stamps with blue jays on them or the ones with Sammy Davis Jr. on them.

When Verlander has thrown as many pitches as Stephen Strasburg did this year, then the bullpen will begin to warm up.

As long as the plot involves the first lady having to become a stripper in order to save the free world.
