I've got the international feed too (ESPN Asia) and these guys are kinda awful. Thorne is not egregiously bad but it just seems like he doesn't watch a lot of baseball. And Sutcliffe is an idiot. Both of them seem to judge pitchers 100% on W-L record.
By the way, Brookens did play 1 game at catcher (5 emergency innings of a 15 inning game) in his career. And Morris was in fact the starter in that game, but he was pulled before Brookens moved from 3B to C.
Heh. I did not know this. I assumed he was a moonlighting hockey guy or something. :-)
*dies of a heart attack*
Larry Mahnken. A replacement-level Yankee. He will be missed.
*plays Taps with a Kazoo... I don't have a trumpet or anything, sorry*
I don't recall that, but that sounds like a Chip Carey moment.
Because the Ichiro-cloning technology is still in beta. It accidentally spits out Kaz Matsui and Tsuyoshi Nishioka instead.
Hey, he's got another AB coming to him tonight.
I figured making an outlandish prediction might pay off somehow.
A Jewish umpire.
Where's the Fat Lady? She's warming up, right?
I want to see Nick Swisher pitch to CC Sabathia just once in my life.
I was at the CWS one year (2000? maybe), and was at a bar after the games, and convinced a drunk friend that 'Hey, look its Tom Brookens' (a really good look alike, fairly certain it wasn't him). Within seconds, drunk friend approaches, "Hey Tom! arrgghh, Tom Brookens." Hilarity ensued. The guy knew who Tom Brookens was and kind of played along w drunk friend. Had to be there.
"And Delmon Young just threw his bat, and the bat hit the umpire! That's a bad move by Delmon."
What's often forgotten is that that ump was a replacement ump. Which makes the fact there were no casualties in the NFL early this year all the more amazing.
I usually find the reports on the debate more interesting than the debate itself.
Are they finally having that discussion between scouts and statheads? I hope someone posts a link to it.
This is the kind of thing that might come back to bite them if Verlander wasn't consuming the Yankees with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse.
Story of their season.....
Especially with the sterling defense Detroit has at the corner infield spots.
(Other than an acute case of homeritis)
When Verlander has thrown as many pitches as Stephen Strasburg did this year, then the bullpen will begin to warm up.
You do realize there probably is some sort of screenwriter in Hollywood writing a script with a plot like that RIGHT NOW?
As long as the plot involves the first lady having to become a stripper in order to save the free world.
