Leyland was actually quoted today saying Valverde might see the mound tonight.

The ESPN radio guys I listened to in the car coming home said that they had "fixed" Valverde's mechanical problems in a side session and he is all better now, so he will see the mound tonight. So relax, Tigers fans!! Happy days!!!11!!1

This is like when you drop something on your foot and know it's about to hurt like heck even though you don't feel anything for three seconds.

Why does that happen, anyway? I mean, it can't take that long for the nerves to transmit the data since I can feel other things on my foot basically instantly.
   307. Gonfalon B. Posted: October 16, 2012 at 10:55 PM (#4273372)
Going back to the top of the previous page, Nate Colbert drove in 111 of the 1972 Padres' 452 RBI, which is just over 24.5%.

Yankees fans: I feel like Russell Martin has amassed all of his homers this season in "clutch" situations. Is it worth the tradeoff of him seeing like a pretty ####### sorry player in most other respects?

I was in the car for that, too. They said that the only runs given up were by Valverde. But that he was fixed now. It was hilarious. They were stating it like it was a fact. Like he was a car or something that was broken and they just fixed him and now he was fine.

Well, Granderson got completely ###### over. Watching Verlander pitch in the playoffs is like watching someone else play baseball mogul- yeah, you can figure out how to beat the algorithm, and if the ump's gonna give that pitch to you, you're a dumbass if you don't take it, but it doesn't make it fun for people with no rooting interest to watch.
   317. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 16, 2012 at 10:59 PM (#4273385)
For as close as this series has appeared score-wise, this has been an intensely boring series, ninth inning of Game 1 aside.

Yeah, I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with the shot of adrenaline that goes with the pain/fear reaction, although that doesn't explain why injuries to the upper body don't have the same effect.

Watching that sliding catch makes me realize I've never had the chance to play baseball on a really nice ball diamond. The outfields have always been sub-par, where sliding like that would probably end up bruising my legs because of the stones/hard dirt. The infields are a just a mess of pits and stones.

I think that instead of those "kids under 14 run the bases" deals, they should have the occasional "adults over 40 get to run the bases". I'd love to do that once.

We tried to play softball at a family reunion four years ago. We got an inning and a half deep before one of the uncles pulled a hammy making the dash from first to second on a ground ball.

We have not played softball at a family function since.
   354. Greg Pope thinks the Cubs are reeking havoc Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:11 PM (#4273429)
Ok, I looked it up. According to this:

Some kinds of signals, like the ones for muscle position travel on extra-fast nerve impulses at speeds of up to 390 feet per second (119 meter/second). Close your eyes and wave your arms around: you can tell where they are at every moment because the muscle-position nerves are very fast …. But other messages, like some kinds of pain signals travel much more slowly. If you stub your toe, you feel the pressure right away because touch signals travel at 250 feet per second. But you won't feel the pain for another two or three seconds, because pain signals generally travel an only two feet per second.
