JV had an outing in KC earlier this year where I believe he went 130+ pitches.
   403. The Ghost's Tryin' to Reason with Hurricane Season Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:18 PM (#4273483)
With Gardner and Ichiro he'll be over 140 pitches.
   404. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:19 PM (#4273484)
i was ok with justin in there as long as he was getting outs but as soon as it gets dicey you yank him for a fresh guy

that was a strike 2 innings ago!

U need a hr to tie it and a guy with 600 on the bench
   407. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:19 PM (#4273487)
I think Leyland's game plan here is to lose with Verlander this time, which he's going to accomplish.
   408. Lassus Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:19 PM (#4273488)
What's the highest pitch count for a pitcher this season?

Santana's no-hitter was pretty high, wasn't it?
   409. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:19 PM (#4273489)
I seriously think it's a bad idea to leave Verlander in there. I don't see him not having to go more than 140 pitches to finish this.
   410. DKDC Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:19 PM (#4273490)
This is so dumb.
   411. The Ghost's Tryin' to Reason with Hurricane Season Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:20 PM (#4273491)
Like I said - these 2 guys can foul off a bunch of them.
   412. fra paolo Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:20 PM (#4273492)
Get him out of there!
   413. Lassus Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:20 PM (#4273493)
Swung at ball four.
   414. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:20 PM (#4273494)
I hope Ichiro feels like hitting a homer.
   415. Every Inge Counts Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:20 PM (#4273495)
OK go to the bullpen now.
   416. DKDC Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:20 PM (#4273496)
OK, high note.

Yank his ass now.
   417. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:20 PM (#4273497)
Please don't kill Verlander, Jim.
   418. Tim D Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:20 PM (#4273498)
He threw 140 v Texas in the ALDS last year.

What have you done for me lately? -- Joe Girardi
   424. JJ1986 Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:21 PM (#4273504)
I'm sure he won't pinch hit for Ichiro, but this is the one batter where you're guaranteed to face a lefty.
   425. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:21 PM (#4273505)
Unfortunately, that's the game. The Yankees managed to string it out long enough to get him out.
   426. DKDC Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:21 PM (#4273506)
Swung at ball four.

That's pretty tough to do on a 2-2 count.

Now that'd be pretty ballsy. Take down the only guy who's not looked lost in the series for New York's favorite athlete.

#399 - They found that somebody had installed a left-handed framastat. Valverde throws righty so they swapped it out for a right-handed one and he's fixed now. They also changed his oil.
   430. Austin Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:22 PM (#4273511)
I don't remotely understand why Leyland left Verlander in to face Gardner. If the series gets to Game 7 and he gets lit up, we know who to blame.
   431. Dave Spiwak Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:23 PM (#4273512)
1 pitch from Verlander = the wear and tear of 3 neck-vein popping pitches from Chris Carpenter, so I think Verlander could throw 270 pitches and be ok.
   432. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:23 PM (#4273514)
So Ichiro will get on and steal second . . .
   433. Dave Spiwak Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:24 PM (#4273515)
I don't remotely understand why Leyland left Verlander in to face Gardner.

   435. DKDC Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:24 PM (#4273517)
Wait, they have a lefty who can throw 95? Why wasn't this dude in there against Gardner (I know, pinch hitter, but still)?
   436. Every Inge Counts Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:24 PM (#4273518)

   439. Dr. Vaux Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:24 PM (#4273521)
Okay, so a game-tying home run by Texiera.

You bring in Coke, you get someone scarier than Gardner, don't you?

That's actually a really good point. I think you're probably right, although Girardi has been so far removed from the realm of reason lately that I have no idea whether he actually would have pinch-hit for Gardner.
   442. DKDC Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:26 PM (#4273526)
1 game left until the good old Yankees of the 80s are back!

I think the Yankees have to score the run, and pinch running for Teixeira makes it more likely. I wouldn't like to be in extras without him, but the run is so important that I can understand the PR.
   462. Gamingboy Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:31 PM (#4273548)

Now's the time to bring in Valverde, right?
   471. boteman Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:31 PM (#4273557)
That mercy rule might've come in handy for the Tigers: if they could simply skip the 9th inning the Yankees would be incapable of doing anything.
   472. DKDC Posted: October 16, 2012 at 11:32 PM (#4273558)
I want this moment. We need to see Ibanez fail here to completely crush the Yankees hopes.
