Oy...
Before Valverde threw his first pitch, I told my cousin that he probably wasn’t going to throw him (Ibanez) too many fastballs.
First pitch was off-speed for a called strike.
Ibanez is no dummy. He clearly was looking off-speed on the next pitch, got it and hit the home run.
Sometimes a pitcher has to think on the second level as they say in poker. That means you think about only what the batter might be looking for, but what the batter might think you are thinking he is looking for, especially with a smart batter at the plate.
Whoa, that's some deep #### mgl.
This game is obviously on TBS, because if it was on FOX, it would have been McCarver who said it, and would have had nothing to do with the injury...
Sure, but that didn't stop Cal from bending over backwards to be impartial during the last series.
If Arod hadn't selfishly insisted on moving to third after the trade, he'd have been out there at SS. So yes.
That's what this game was like to watch: Eating a #### sandwich to get to the filet just to have to eat more #### for the trouble.
So proud of the Detroit Tigers and especially Drew Smyly, a kid I've been backing since spring training. Helluva win.
Holy hell.
Well, Ball ####### Saxbury.
You can stop watching this series now, and just watch to see who the Tigers will play in the World Series.
I *totally* watched the TBS broadcast and they totally implied he was just lying there and fooling it, just looking for sympathy and gift baskets.
I mean, he was screaming in pain and waving to the dugout, but, hey, it's the Cap'n, he's always faking ####, right???
####### TBS.
I don't think so, but that's a thought. Although they might do that late inning after a PH for Nix or Nunez.
I believe his hair dates from 1977, though. That feathered look was a decade out of style two decades ago.
KNICKS EDGE CELTICS IN OT
Look Ready For Regular Season
All major venues have X-ray facilities these days.
Nunez isn't on the roster.
Brian Doyle, World Series hero ...
Neither does Jeter.
He is now.
He will be tomorrow ...
[edit] cokes to Gamingboy ...
To recap:
Any manager not as dumb as Leyland would have had 1 or 2 forgettable Tigers pitchers finish out a 4-0 9th inning, leaving him in great position to turn Game 2 over tomorrow afternoon with a 1-run lead to a well-rested and seemingly recouped Jose Valverde.
Instead, he wins Game 2 anyway, burns up the secondary levels of both bullpens, now knows (?) that Valverde is a basket case on the road now (and even if he doesn't, he can't be dumb enough to use him tomorrow anyway), AND the breaking-down Jeter is broke and now done for the season.
Leyland is a genius.
So... yeah, they'll need to step it up a little.
80 ABs, 16 Hits, 28 strikeouts, 9 walks, 1 double, 0 homers, 2 RBI.
.200/.301/.213.
Well, maybe the Yankees can hope Verlander pulls something laughing.
Which means "Damn straight".
No it won't.
17 years is still a long time, though.
