Delmon strikes me as the epitome of the uncoachable talent. He's still ony 26 and plays the game like an old man. He bats like he wants to sit down ASAP. He is one of the worst OF's I ever saw. Dave Kingman included.

Kuroda on 3 days won't end well. He's Never done it before

With regard to Mays, they were trying to distract you guys from the weird selective endpoints they were using.
   204. PreservedFish Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4268458)
Can we just start saying average
   205. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:31 PM (#4268459)
Anyone surprised they dumped Nunez from the roster with Jeter a little lame? They have Nix, but still.
   206. PreservedFish Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:32 PM (#4268461)
Can we all agree to just start saying average instead of league average?
   207. JJ1986 Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:32 PM (#4268462)
I'm not 100% sure, but I remember Young with a very different batting stance in Durham. He stood up and kept his hands back. Now he's up here like a singles hitter trying to slap the ball the other way.

Oops. Mobile posting problems.

Nice of the TBS crew to admit that, maybe, possibly, theoretically, Cano "might have been 'a tiny bit safe'".

Mighty white of you, bros ...

[edit] I've got your 'tiny bit safe' right here.

Jackson would've been DEAD.

(Hey, remember when the AL was the big high-scoring league?)

They might double up Prince if he hits it to the warning track.

How good is Miguel Cabrera? God enough that you'll IBB him when Prince Fielder is coming up (assuming they don't IBB him too)

Jackson would've been DEAD.

Is it just me or did it appear as though Infante wasn't even trying to get a hit?

The Yankees are Old
The Tigers are Fat
The Cardinals are Lucky
The Giants are . . .?

Prince Fielder laughs at your foolish assumptions of his hitting ability.
   225. Liver of blaspheming 'zop Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4268480)
What on earth was Swisher doing? That was an awful jump.
   226. Gamingboy Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4268481)
The Giants are . . .?

Stoned.
   227. Best Regards, L.M. Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4268482)
Good thing they put Cabrera on, he might have hit a home run and then they'd be behind 2-0 right now.
   228. Chip Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4268483)
That was a great read by Cabrera.
   229. bunyon Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4268484)
Holbrook didn't quite have time to call infield fly there.
   230. fra paolo Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:40 PM (#4268485)
Cabrera steals a run there.

Nice baserunning by Miggy.

Miguel Cabrera does something awesome [X]
   234. Gamingboy Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4268489)
Does that count as awesome? I think it's a good play, but I don't know if it's awesome.
   235. JJ1986 Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4268490)
The announcers are praising Cabrera but I think it was a bad decision. Swisher should have had that.
   236. ShoeGrit Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4268491)
By the way, looking at Young just in that at bat and in the clip linked above,...yes, he was more upright back then and not crouched like he is now.
   237. Liver of blaspheming 'zop Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4268492)
Man, if the tigers win this one... It's ###############.
   238. Rafael Bellylard: Built like a Fielder Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4268493)
That was a "hero" or "goat" play by Cabrera. No middle ground at all.
   239. JE (Jason Epstein) Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4268494)
Agree with JJ1986. That ball landed close to the feet of Swisher.
   240. bunyon Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:42 PM (#4268495)
I would like to see the pop up that Prince can score from second on.
   241. Random Transaction Generator Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:43 PM (#4268496)
Does that count as awesome? I think it's a good play, but I don't know if it's awesome.

I might have missed it, but have they shown a replay of the third base coach?
If Miggy ignores a stop signal, I say mark it as "awesome".
   242. The John Wetland Memorial Death (CoB) Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:43 PM (#4268497)
"The Yankees have Derek Lowe up in the bullpen".

Oooooooh, that sounds lovely ...

/sarcasm (if it wasn't clear)
   243. Liver of blaspheming 'zop Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:43 PM (#4268498)
Derek Lowe! Just what the situation calls for!
   244. Justin T is expanding the aperture of awareness Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:43 PM (#4268499)
The announcers are praising Cabrera but I think it was a bad decision. Swisher should have had that.

Well, Smoltz started to say Miggy either had a great read or just said screw it I'm going and then Darling butted in with "OH PERFECT READ PERFECT READ BECAUSE IT WORKED OUT IT WAS THE PERFECT READ DO NOT DARE TO QUESTION IT PERFECT READ"
   245. bunyon Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4268500)
I say awesome. It was aggresive base running. It wasn't clear Swisher wouldn't catch it, but also not clear he would. Cabrera took the risk and got the run.

Awesome.
   246. Liver of blaspheming 'zop Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:44 PM (#4268501)
No, really, let's overreact to one clean hit and a bunch of fluky ones.
   247. bunyon Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:45 PM (#4268504)
Please do, zop.
   248. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:47 PM (#4268507)
Doesn't Dirks have a platoon partner?
   249. JE (Jason Epstein) Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4268508)
Those last two PAs were pathetic.
   250. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4268509)
The Detroit radio guys are super annoying. "C'mon, Andy (Dirks), that's not like you, buddy." Is this the norm for other cities? If so, Vin Scully has ruined me for every other radio team.
   251. Chip Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4268510)
Pettitte in trouble, bases loaded, and Dirks and Garcia both swing at the first pitch, neither of which were strikes.
   252. Liver of blaspheming 'zop Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:49 PM (#4268512)
WHO'S BORING NOW
   253. Austin Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:49 PM (#4268513)
I still can scarcely believe that Avisail Garcia is a starting right fielder in a playoff game.
   254. The John Wetland Memorial Death (CoB) Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:50 PM (#4268515)
Avisail

Isn't that some sort of genital warts cream???

Is there any material difference between the various boner pills they seem to be shilling between every inning?

Designated Hitter Lew Ford says hi.
   257. JJ1986 Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:51 PM (#4268519)
What does Rick Sutcliffe have to say about that?
   258. bunyon Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4268520)
Infante makes that play back in the 1880s before gloves.
   259. Chip Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4268521)
WTF was that Infante?
   260. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4268522)
I agree with Smoltz, Swish might have well gone for it if he knew that Miggy was running all the way.
   261. Good cripple hitter Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:52 PM (#4268523)
What does Rick Sutcliffe have to say about that?

He blamed the shift, saying Infante has no idea how to play defense from where he was standing.

LEON!!!
   264. Tim D Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4268526)
248, 249 and 251 have grasped the essence of the Tiger's issues. Dirks does not have a platoon partner. The only RH OF they have besides Jackson is Garcia who should be in AA. Unless you want to count Delmon but I don't think they even let him bring a glove to the stadium anymore. Pretty much all of the Tiger hitters swing at the first pitch all the time. You guys should roll it up there; we would swing at it.
   265. The John Wetland Memorial Death (CoB) Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:54 PM (#4268527)

   269. Liver of blaspheming 'zop Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4268531)
Chavez would be getting better at bats than this ####.
   270. Gamingboy Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4268532)
I wonder if A-Rod looks at baby centaurs when he's sad.
   271. Austin Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4268533)
Designated Hitter Lew Ford says hi.

Well, yes, of course, but at least he played on a team that didn't really expect to reach the playoffs. And if I remember correctly, there wasn't even an injury that forced the Tigers to go with Garcia; everyone they were planning to play in right field simply sucked massively.

And damn, it's almost as though Rodriguez is trying to get himself benched for the next game.
   272. Good cripple hitter Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:55 PM (#4268534)
I feel sorry for the fan who was holding the "In A-Rod We Trust" sign.
   273. bunyon Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:56 PM (#4268535)
A-Rod just looks...awful.
   274. JJ1986 Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4268536)
Would Raburn have been the RH outfielder if he wasn't awful?
   275. fra paolo Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:57 PM (#4268537)
The Detroit radio guys are super annoying.

I think they are quite good. A bit fanboyish, but within reason. They tend to lose interest in describing blow-outs, though.
   276. Liver of blaspheming 'zop Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:58 PM (#4268538)
Fister is a guy Granderson should hit. Det should bring in the loogy.
   277. Tim D Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4268539)
Would Raburn have been the RH outfielder if he wasn't awful?

Yes

   282. bunyon Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4268544)
zop, I was trying to get typed that I agreed. But Granderson struck out before I could finish.

   284. The John Wetland Memorial Death (CoB) Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4268546)
This team needs an enema.
   285. fra paolo Posted: October 13, 2012 at 09:59 PM (#4268547)
Crikey, Fister is up to 93 pitches already. That darn Kellogg!
   286. Austin Posted: October 13, 2012 at 10:00 PM (#4268548)
Gameday brought out the 100 Nasty Factor for strike 1 there. I thought letting Fister pitch to Granderson there was the wrong move, but it sure looks good now.
   287. ShoeGrit Posted: October 13, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4268549)
Whats the record for most bases loaded jams gotten out of without allowing a run in a playoff game ?

Where is Jason Stark when you need him ?
   288. Gamingboy Posted: October 13, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4268550)
The Yankees were doomed as soon as they loaded the bases.
   289. JJ1986 Posted: October 13, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4268551)
The Yankees just got fisted.
   290. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: October 13, 2012 at 10:01 PM (#4268552)
That's some spectacular pitching there.
   291. Tim D Posted: October 13, 2012 at 10:02 PM (#4268553)
I was about to ask Leyland where Coke was as well. But Fister leaves them loaded again............

I dare say Fister won't get out of loaded bases without a run a third time.

You'd think so, but clearly you've not watched enough of the Yankees this season.
Called it!
   296. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: October 13, 2012 at 10:02 PM (#4268558)
Adma Jones in the Baltimore series, Fister in this one. Nice to have the playoffs be a parade of guys the Mariners traded away.
   297. Liver of blaspheming 'zop Posted: October 13, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4268559)
And if Doug Fister looks like Pedro ####### Martinez out there, wait till these guys see Verlander.

Well, that's one way to look at it ...
   299. bunyon Posted: October 13, 2012 at 10:03 PM (#4268561)
Indeed, RB. I stand corrected.

By the way, I'm glad they won the ALDS--because Baltimore just wasn't that good a team--but it is nice of the Yankees to just play awful in the LCS and remind me once again how much I despise this particular assemblage.
