Wake up Tigers, time to die.
Dan Johnson.
Cuz, I have to believe that if Valverde appears in the 9th inning of a game in Detroit, they'll boo him.
Well, it worked once. And it's better than Jackass Grande.
This is so correct that I'll endorse it despite the grammatical error.
Me too. I mean, of COURSE Raul Ibanez hit a game-tying home run, because apparently that's what he does now. (#529 - Dan Johnson is another good choice, though)
hor
I'm really really afraid that even if Leyland knows it, he'll use Benoit instead.
Not that there are many options, but Albuquerque has been great. I have feeling Porcello might be quite good as a reliever (although obviously not as a closer right away)
Edit edit: that McCarthy tweet is amazing.
Check that.
Miguel Cabrera's apparently yelling at Leyland on the Tigers bench. That's interesting.
This is made of win.
As a group, in "Full Metal Jacket" soap-in-the-sock style, after he falls asleep in his hotel room tonight.
Looks like Miguel Cabrera wants to join them.
You are ahead 4-0, and have 4 or 5 relievers left.
The only one with even a slight chance of allowing 4 runs is Valverde.
Well, then we know which one to go with!
Then, once you can see that your hunch has failed and that the evil Valverde has returned a la Arizona, Houston, and Detroit, you allow him to walk Teixeira, then pitch to IBANEZ.
Even if you win the game anyway, you have (thankfully) lost Valverde for tomorrow, and maybe any other games at Yankee Stadium in the series (and maybe beyond the Bronx).
You have skipped the option of having a fresh, unscarred Valverde available for Game 2.
After having a 4-run lead.
The mind boggles.
Beat him up so he's injured so they can replace him with somebody.
Stomp, stomp, stomp.
Really, MCoA. I hate the Yankees as much as the next guy, but Leyland does not deserve to go anywhere near a bottle of bubbly for as long as he lives.
What a disgusting feeling - wish I could control myself. It was plain to see that Valverde should have been yanked after the Ichiro homer
What are the odds that Miggy goes murdering later tonight?
100%. He's doing it now. It's a deep, deep sad brew.
Verlander, at least, has Kate Upton to run to.
I have been back and forth and all I see is sulking and shoving the cooler.
Will it make you happy if I simply root for Leyland and Valverde to slip on bars of soap after the game?
Ichiro does something awesome [X ]
After a quick calculation, I would say he has ALL OF IT.
Clearly you don't.
Seriously. Leyland could have called on Bashar al-Assad to pitch the 9th, and I'd have been rooting for him to strike out the side.
Valverde has been like this all year. So has Benoit. Balls are smoked and caught. Hittable pitches missed (Cano). Amazingly, Valverde was a lot like this last year when he was 49 for 49 or whatever. The guy is on the razor's edge all the time. Their big move was to add Dotel. They can't get through this series without a bullpen and they don't have one. I guess if it was me I'd let Dotel and Coke convince me they can't handle it, use Albuquerque and Smyly ahead of them and have Benoit and Valverde mop up until they show me something more.
Dejected.
Fixed it now. Went back and edited it.
Because I have a soul?
Valverde appears to be a bat alarm clock.
But I've always loved Raul Ibanez, his hilarious defensive flaws notwithstanding.
And tonight I'm so happy for him. I was less happy when he did this against the Orioles, because I wanted them to win that series. Here, I don't really have any issues (though I don't dislike the Tigers per se).
Everyone who has ever played with Raul Ibanez or met him on the street in a non-baseball context will tell you the same thing: he's an almost impossibly likeable, big-hearted guy. For him to go on this sort of a run, with the Yanks, in the postseason (and helping take Ichiro along with him to his potential only WS title no less!) is nothing short of awesome.
Then why did he sign with Satan's team?
