Whew. One more inning, and I think we can, at the very least, put the "David Price can't pitch in the postseason" narrative into hibernation.
   2102. The_Ex Posted: October 18, 2018 at 09:52 PM (#5770662)
That half inning had 26 pitches, one ball in play, and probably took around 20 minutes. Its like watching a game of catch. Baseball fever, catch it!
2103. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: October 18, 2018 at 09:53 PM (#5770663)
Flip. First Kershaw, now Price. I'm loving that these guys are giving the finger to the playoff narrative they've had to carry around for so long.
2104. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 18, 2018 at 09:57 PM (#5770664)
What was that one? Verlander threw it about 52 feet at the LH batter's box.
2105. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:05 PM (#5770665)
If Price can get through this inning, it'll be absolutely massive.
2106. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:08 PM (#5770667)
Price keeps getting up 0-2 on hitters, it's great even if it takes him 10 minutes to get to that point.
2107. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:09 PM (#5770668)
Easy inning. Price has at least one more in him.
2108. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:09 PM (#5770669)
Price has mastered the Jon Lester Bounce Pass, apparently.

If Price can get through this inning, it'll be absolutely massive.
And if he can get through next inning, it'll be Tuesday.
2110. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:10 PM (#5770671)
This is everything the Sox could have possibly asked of Price. I think I let him come out to start the 6th, but have an extremely quick hook.
   2111. Jay Seaver Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:11 PM (#5770673)
Lets get some runs. Don't usually care about the pitcher win, but this one is big beyond getting to the Series.

That one actually is clearly off the wall. Get those insurance runs!
2114. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:15 PM (#5770676)
Why! WTH is kinsler still trying to hit off Verlander? Why?
   2115. strong silence Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:16 PM (#5770677)
Neutral here. Baseball was a.big interest long way back for me but career and marriage now are my main interests.

Get me interested in the playoffs. Is there a compelling story about any of these 4 teams? LAD and MIL haven't won the whole thing in a long time but that's true of a few teams. Houston won last year and they were fun to watch. It seems these games aren't that fun from what I have read here at BBTF.

Maybe Boston winning 5 straight from here on puts them among the best of all time. ?? I enjoy greatness. A great team would rekindle my baseball interest.

Holy cr*p, Kinsler, of all people, singles...

edited for spelling...as usual

Kinsler does something good! Stunning!
2119. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:17 PM (#5770681)
I don't think the Brewers have ever won the WS. They're my second pick. Boston has a really fun core of players, Betts, JBJ, and Benintendi are all delightful.
2120. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:17 PM (#5770682)
They should pull Verlander, even Kinsler got a hit.
2121. Los Angeles El Hombre of Anaheim Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:17 PM (#5770683)
That's the series right there.

They're a lot of fun when things are happening. The ending of last night's game, for example, was great. When they slog on and on with no action, not so much.
2126. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:18 PM (#5770690)
Take that Nunez! You are never getting to play 3B for the Red Sox ever again!

2129. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5770693)
Last night's game was a classic. Back and forth see-saw battle that had a ton of great plays from both sides.

Game 1 was just poor from both sides, and took forever. Game 2 was pretty good, and Kimbrel made things way too interesting at the end. Game 3 was really close until JBJ's grand slam in the top of the 8th.
   2130. Lassus Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:19 PM (#5770694)
UH-OH

Actually, I am kinda bummed, I want more baseball. 5-game series' are lame.

Is there a compelling story about any of these 4 teams? ... It seems these games aren't that fun from what I have read here at BBTF.

There are a bunch of people who appear to watch these games like the point is to get them over quickly, but the ALCS has been a lot of fun (admittedly, I'm a Boston fan) - two terrific teams battling it out. Don't need much more story/narrative than that.
   2132. Chip Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:21 PM (#5770697)

There were runs last night in all but the 8th inning, so people really need to STFU about this.

Come on, that's disingenuous and you know it. The desire is just to increase the baseball-to-dicking-around ratio.

There was great intensity and drama to each of the previous three games so people really need to STFU about this.
2136. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:25 PM (#5770702)
The complaints are mostly about how friggin long it takes for an AB. When it's with runners on and a tight game, that adds tension and excitement. When it's two outs and none on, not so much.
   2137. Chip Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:28 PM (#5770705)

When it’s two outs and none on in a 1-run game, those ABs matter just as much.

I understand that people who don’t like baseball don’t like baseball, but those people are idiots, especially when it comes to this series.

My wife and I are fighting over the remote. Singing in the Rain is on TBS. "Gene Kelly in Singin in the Rain, with a temp of 104 degrees!, danced one of the greatest dances of all time", she tells me. But I say that is nothing compared hitting a 96 mph heater."

I need a compelling reason to give here to take back the remote to watch this baseball game.
2145. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:33 PM (#5770713)

How about, you can watch Singing in the Rain anytime? And also, who cares if Gene Kelly danced a dance?

EDIT: More seriously, have her watch an Altuve at-bat. Marvel at how great he is despite being 3 feet tall. He's a great player to introduce to a non-fan.
   2148. Benji Gil Gamesh VII - The Opt-Out Awakens Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:35 PM (#5770716)
I wish the pace was quicker too, but the constant complaints about the pace have actually gotten more tedious than the problem itself.
   2149. The_Ex Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:35 PM (#5770717)
There are a lot of people, me included, who go to bed shortly before midnight and are surprised that the game is in the seventh inning. The game might be engrossing but not enough to stop me from going to bed.
2150. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:35 PM (#5770718)
I think I spent more time last night complaining in all caps about Porcello than anything else.

Gotta give Price another inning after that performance against the top of the lineup, yes?
   2153. Jay Seaver Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:37 PM (#5770721)
Clearly, David Price needs to warm up the night before for every post-season start.
2154. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:37 PM (#5770722)
Price has been masterful.

I mean, I guess the theory would be that taking a liner to the face would of course suck, but maybe at least you wouldn't swallow your teeth?
   2157. Lassus Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:39 PM (#5770725)
There's no Koufax in this game to match Gene Kelly. No, Price doesn't count.

ElRoy, I was wondering if maybe it's an anxiety/teeth grinding thing.

   2165. Textbook Editor Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:43 PM (#5770734)
Barnes for the 7th almost certainly means Kimbrel goes in there’s a save situation.

Ugh.
   2166. SteveF Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:43 PM (#5770735)
Price in 7th, Eovaldi in 8th, and Barnes in the 9th is my guess assuming Price gets through the 7th. You probably need Barnes in the 7th instead if Price gets in trouble.

Edit: Guess I'm wrong!
2167. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:48 PM (#5770737)
I can see the rationale for taking out Price, he was at 92 pitches after having fully warmed up last night and already being on three days rest. I cannot see any rationale for bringing in Kimbrel after last night.

Pitches, Tues and Wed:

Rodriguez 0 7
Kelly 4 25
Braisier 14 23
Barnes 16 5
Kimbrel 0 35

I'll bet it is Eovaldi 8th and Kimbrel 9th, but Kelly/Brasier in reserve behind him. I say that as much as I don't want to see Kimbrel.

You're a Rennaissance man.

The "Make 'em Laugh" dance number (in Singin' in the Rain) has more athleticism than a typical home run hit. Discuss.

2175. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: October 18, 2018 at 10:55 PM (#5770746)
Textbook, that would be good. It would certainly let Cora's story be that Kimbrel pitched so much last night that they wanted to use someone else, and clearly Eovaldi isn't to be the new closer for every game.

Homer.

“Make ‘em Laugh” is about as joyous a scene as there is in any movie ever.

Eovaldi here seems a bit panicky... and again it gets us closer to a Kimbrel save scenario.

This is gonna be like Brenly going back to Kim in Game 5, isn’t it?
