Bring Kimbrel in.
   2202. Textbook Editor Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:15 PM (#5770776)
A clean quick inning would be huge here, if only because it *might* make Cora think Eovaldi could start the 9th.
2203. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:16 PM (#5770778)
Evan Gattis's beard just looks at Brian McCann's beard and laughs.
   2204. Textbook Editor Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:16 PM (#5770779)
It’s Brian McCann. Go after him.
   2205. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:16 PM (#5770780)
Is there a compelling story about any of these 4 teams?

The Astros, over the last 2 years, are almost certainly the best team since the late-90s Yankees. The Dodgers haven't won a WS since 1988. The Brewers are trying to plow through the playoffs on the back of a couple of great relievers and a novel postseason strategy. The Red Sox, won more games this year than anybody in forever almost by accident, and their best player is a tiny man who runs really fast. What else do you need?

$17 million dollar ground out to second.

Also an excellent bowler. Can't forget that.

In theory Kelly could close, I think. Or split the inning with Eovaldi.

He was hitting 100 on occasion at the end of the season. I didn't know he could throw that fast.

Most of us are actually married as well. Makes it a little awkward living in our parents' basements, but hey.

Joe Kelly up. Interesting

We've all been having this same chat for like 15 years, and I bet you a dollar most of us have had sex at least once in that time.
   2221. Tin Angel Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:26 PM (#5770797)
Bring Kimbrel for an easy 9th.
   2222. Infinite Yost (Voxter) Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:26 PM (#5770799)
(Ugh, 15 years isn't even an exaggeration, now that I think about it.)
   2223. SteveF Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:27 PM (#5770800)
I remember the last time they brought Kimbrel in up 4-1 in a closeout game...
   2224. Textbook Editor Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:27 PM (#5770801)
Per Speier Kimbrel is up.

Jesus. Full Bob Brenly mode. Damn the torpedoes full speed ahead... into a cliff.

Astros should take to 2 strikes every AB against Kimbrel.
   2225. Jay Seaver Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:27 PM (#5770802)
Kimbrel is apparently up, because aaaaaaaghhhhh!!!!

Hey Voxter,

Thanks for your comment.

1. Best team in 20 years but can't make it to the WS? Hmm

2. That is fine but not compelling.

3. Ok, but that interests only hardcore fans.

4. Yeah, I think this BoSox team dominating will draw me in. Reminds me of the 1976 Reds, who won 108 game IIRC. (Although the competition was tougher.)

Here's the stat that tells it all: Game Scores: Price 79, Verlander 38.

Congrats to the Red Sox** and may they keep it up in the World Series, especially if they're playing the Dodgers. Babe Ruth will be expecting them to maintain their perfect record from 102 years ago.

** Never mind if they blow it, but if that happens Red Sox Nation will be committing collective suicide and won't be around for the Series.
   2229. Nasty Nate Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:30 PM (#5770806)
I don’t have enough alcohol on hand to be drunk when Kimbrel comes in.

Not much. Just 11 wins in October.

I went straight to the rubbing alcohol.

   2233. Textbook Editor Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:32 PM (#5770810)
Kimbrel here is just madness. I don’t care how it turns out, the process is broken if “Kimbrel pitches the 9th” is what it led you to.
   2234. Textbook Editor Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:33 PM (#5770811)
I mean did Cora learn nothing from the Ken Giles debacle?

1. Best team in 20 years but can't make it to the WS? Hmm

Well, they won it last year, and that's baseball for ya.

2. That is fine but not compelling.

Fair enough, but the Dodgers are also the most innovative franchise in baseball and have the greatest pitcher since Pedro gutting out the back-end of his prime, among a number of other things.

3. Ok, but that interests only hardcore fans.

I guess there's nothing I can do for you, then. The Brewers are the forefront of a strategy that has changed a major sport in a way it probably hasn't been changed in 40 years, but if that's not interesting to you, that's fine.

4. Yeah, I think this BoSox team dominating will draw me in. Reminds me of the 1976 Reds, who won 108 game IIRC. (Although the competition was tougher.)

Whatever works, man. Baseball!

Three-out saves are the easiest possible but we know Kimbrel is capable of blowing one as we’ve seen.

Brenly might be the last manager to win a World Series in his first season managing. Tito and Farrell both worked elsewhere.

Both Francona and Farrell had experience elsewhere, is I assume what they're going with regarding Brenly.

I try to be a big-sample-size guy, but the Dodgers have matched up well with every team they've played this year and somehow managed to win just 91 games. I'd say that 17-game difference b/w the two teams probably indicates a difference in quality.
   2290. ERROR---Jolly Old St. Nick Posted: October 18, 2018 at 11:59 PM (#5770869)
Andy, perfect record? Please enlighten me.

So far they're 1 and 0 against the Dodgers in World Series matchups. That was the Series where Babe Ruth began his since broken record for scoreless innings by blanking the Robins/Dodgers for the last 13 innings in a 2 to 1 14 inning game 2 win.

MLB has spent the entirety of the 21st century lamenting the decline of African-American talent in MLB and devoting (appropriately) untold resources to inner city baseball in response. So I sure hope they market the #### out of having a (pending) African-American MVP and an African-American CS MVP and an African-American winning pitcher putting the Red Sox in the World Series. In Boston, of all places.

IF the Sox win this Series, their all-time World Series mark will be 9-4, a .692 percentage.

The Yankees' W/L percentage is .675...
