Ok Bum, that'll do.

Red Sox finally find 8th inning guy!
   704. SteveF Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:23 PM (#5766479)
I guarantee Kimbrel walks the first batter he faces. Guarantee!
   705. Jay Seaver Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:24 PM (#5766480)
Porcello gets the team to Sweet Caroline without damage, but I see no reason for Kimbrel to come in with it still a save situation.
   706. Jay Seaver Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:26 PM (#5766482)
Devers on again, and normally I'd make jokes about this being the end of Nunez, but we know that will never ever happen.
   707. cardsfanboy Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:26 PM (#5766483)

Seriously though, I mentioned this around the 8th yesterday. These games really drag on and I find my concern about the outcome waning considerably(and I do have a dog in this fight)

Not sure that I agree about it dragging on, but I'm going to bed now simply because I have no dog in this fight and s-t ton of work to do tomorrow(my shift starts at 5am) so hopefully the good guys win this game (I'll leave the interpretation of good guys up to you)

Not PH here for Kinsler is malpractice
   709. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:27 PM (#5766485)
Why is Kinsler still there. He and Nunez need to not play at all.
   710. SteveF Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:28 PM (#5766486)
Kinsler is even late on fat changeups.

Kinsler looked terrified throughout that entire at-bat and my only explanation for his continued playing is that Cora looks at the number and thinks he's Nomar in his prime or something.
   713. The Anthony Kennedy of BBTF (Scott) Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:30 PM (#5766489)
Nunez and Kinsler need to be nailed to the bench for the rest of this series.
   714. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:31 PM (#5766490)
Cora is a former utility infielder who thinks that utility infielders are good enough to be regulars and trusted in key situations. He's a replacement level manager.
   715. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:36 PM (#5766491)
When Moreland and Devers comme on and have success that makes Cora think they should come in off the bench. He feels like a genius.

   723. Jay Seaver Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:40 PM (#5766499)
Mooooooooooooooooooooookie!

(Swihart would have scored, but, on the other hand, Kimbrel was pretty wild the other night.)

It's really sad that baseball puts its worst, most boring foot forward at exactly the time when it should be at its most exciting and has its best opportunity to convert new fans.
   731. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:48 PM (#5766508)
Kimbrel and Gattis in the Battle of the Beards. How many episodes of Duck Dynasty do you think they've combined to watch?

   738. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:52 PM (#5766515)
Yep. There was something to be said for some teams' "no facial hair" policies in the '80s.

When I looked between innings I discovered there was a much more exciting Patriots-Chiefs game in the 4th quarter, which is now 30-26 New England with the Chiefs 1st and goal inside the 5.
   741. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:54 PM (#5766518)
And George "you can call me Barry B." Springer keeps the game alive....of course.

####### Kimbrel. Why can't you just get out of an inning without allowing a run!

Oh dear.

Also, that hit did not "have a chance", announcer dude.

So at what point does Kimbrel lose his closer position?

Damn that was close

That game was just shy of four hours.
   755. Baldrick Posted: October 14, 2018 at 10:56 PM (#5766532)
Kimbrel tried pretty hard to screw that up, but managed to avoid doing so.

A quick breezy 3:45 game, 20 minutes faster than yesterday with way more hitting.

You won't be needing those mate. I called the Sox in 6 and I'm sticking by that even if Kimbrel keeps "closing" and Kinsler keeps playing!

As soon as I heard "Another pitching change" I turned the TV off. It's very hard to watch these games if one doesn't have a rooting interest.

I totally get this. on my DVR version, the commercials, pitching changes, and crotch-grabbing/batting-glove-removing lasts only as I, as Lord and Master of my TV, decide it shall last.

it's invigorating. these time-wasting players have no power on my screen.

now, pardon me as I allow the Patriots and Chiefs to resume their game. they have been waiting for a bit.
   761. Baldrick Posted: October 14, 2018 at 11:40 PM (#5766543)
Quality of the games hasn't been super high, but at least both series are at 1-1. Here's hoping for some Game 7s!

That's the local time, but for the great majority of the country it'll be 5:05 or 4:05, which means that they'll at least be able to tune in for the final innings. And a 2:05 local start also means that they'll avoid most of the late afternoon shadows.

Tomorrow night's local 6:09/9:09 EDT start will reduce the shadows problem, but only the hardest of hardcore fans in the East will likely stay up past midnight to watch the end of the game.

5th inning.

Damn, I even guessed Detroit and 19.

   777. Bote Man Posted: October 15, 2018 at 08:11 PM (#5767171)
Machado made a bad play. Not a terrible one. Virtually every SS in the league could have botched that. And would have, had they managed to boot the ball in the air in the clumsy manner that he did and then happen to find the handle again in the gift of the year. His momentum was carrying him backwards as the ball deflected up above him which is why people were fooled into thinking it was a special play. He didn't even put out the batter-runner at 1B. I see nothing remarkable about it.
   778. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 15, 2018 at 08:16 PM (#5767176)
Machado sucks. Not as much as his hair-do, but close.

Walker Buehler's pitches are all lined up vertically, save for one fastball that meandered outside the zone. Everything is either in the zone, high, or low, nowhere else.

Probably not until they (and their managers) accept and acknowledge that such slides are, in fact, illegal.

Arcia should tape some very sharp spike strips under his pant legs so that next time Machado reaches out he grabs more than he bargained for. Forget Bardahl!

That is a 100% illegal BS slide by Machado.

He learned that from his teammate, Ace Chutney.
