Lee pitching like an ace in Cleveland

Too bad Lee is below average.

Who is this guy pitching for the Cleveland Indians, and what has he done with the real Cliff Lee?

In case you haven’t been paying attention, the Indians’ left-hander is now 6-0 with a miniscule 0.81 earned run average after yet another impressive road outing on Wednesday against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. He has only allowed four runs in 44 2/3 innings this season, and the next run he gives up on the road will be his first of the year.

Not bad for a guy who wasn’t even expected to start the season with the team.

Piffle. This isn't even the most amazing story of the season.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Gabor Paul II Bako:

310/375/552, 136 OPS+, 5 doubles, 2 triples, 4 HR (tying his career high).

His career line before this season: 233/306/315, 62 OPS+ in about 2000 PA.

What's even more baffling is that, so far, his peripherals support it. Of course I'm aware even that could be statistical noise, particularly the home run rate, but it's still something to chew on. Like a Cliffwich. Or Lee Pie.

Ha. Bako's not even the best story among catchers:

Kevin Cash: .361 .429 .472, 144 OPS+.

This has brought his career stats up to 185 .243 .284, 37 OPS+.

Lee now has a 39 to 2 K:BB ratio. But I guess its just small sample size luck.

No, but I don't scoff at the idea that he is above average. I think the ratio tends to indicate that he is above average.

Because through historical misuse, miniscule is now an acceptable variant spelling.

How long till Stan MusiCal starts being an acceptable variant spelling because of spellcheck misbehavior? And probably references to "grizzly" murders are A-OK these days, too.

We never learned how to spell minuscule in Kindergarten, we were too busy with differential equations.
