Let’s Hope Fans Give Bengie Molina Ovation He Deserves

Has France considered keeping the retirement age the same, but making everyone move at Bengie Molina speed?

?Bengie Molina is a winner. And he’s got the hardware to prove it. Whether the Rangers or Giants capture the World Series, Molina is walking away with a World Series ring. And then he’ll retire.

He's a whiny #####, but I'll still give him a hand.

#### that. Dude is trying to take away a World Series away from you. No quarter! Wait for interleague meaninglessness to be nice to him.

That's gotta be one of the sweetest set ups in sports history. Talk about no pressure.

If the retirement sticks, Bengie will be the leader among non-All-Star catchers in hits and RBI, and he'll be second (behind Chris Hoiles) in HR. A 103-stolen base season next year would have put him in first in steals too.

i knew he was fat, but did not realize until i watched the ALCS how incredibly big his stomach is. wow.

From the Article

Glancing at Molina's career statistics, a case could be mounted that he's the best catcher the San Francisco Giants have ever had.

Really? 4 years in SF with a WAR of 1.5, career of 8.6? Even allowing a huge margin of error for WAR catcher defense, you think he's better than Tom Haller (7 years in SF, 18.8 WAR, 29.3 overall)? I think I'd also take Dick Dietz over him (6 years in SF, 11.9 WAR, 13.0 overall) -- or even Bob Brenly or the last gasp of Benito Santiago.

Hey, he paved the way for Buster Posey.

Yeah, I wouldn't mount that case. If that case was a horse, its name would be Glue.

Bengie was a good Giant. It wasn't his fault that he was asked to be a cleanup hitter.

But the incessant whining about being disrespected ever since the Giants started talking about Posey as the catcher of the future is tiresome. The Giants paid him $20 million for less than four seasons of work. It's a fair price.

Enjoy your ring you fat ####. I'll be there tonight, and I'll give you everything you deserve -- and more.

Plus, he's in line to get a pretty good chunk of a World Series share. Probably something like .5-.75 of Texas' share and maybe .25-.5 of the Giants' share. That's pretty good.

Yeah, I'm failing to see why a guy who let his body go to hell the way Molina did deserves any sort of ovation. Pissing away a good bit of your talent by becoming an immobile load isn't something to admire and definitely doesn't suggest he cared deeply about winning, as the article tries to argue.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that both the Giants and the Rangers had voted both Molina and Chris Ray full shares. That sounds bizarre, but that's how I understood it to be.

Eyeballing Bengie Molina, I'd say two shares is about right.

And thus we have the moment when I find out that Chris Ray (a) is still pitching in the Majors and (b) pitched for Texas and San Francisco this year.

Was Ray on the DL at some point? I know there's rules about guys on the DL ending up with a full share, because they are considered on the roster, which is how Carl Pavano ended up with a full share throughout his entire Yankee career.

Yeah, he was on the DL for a couple of weeks from late August to early September. Thus he's been eligible to be on the Giants postseason roster, but they haven't activated him for any of the series.
