Liberation Day: Orioles release ineffective Eaton; recall Albers

Struggling pitcher Adam Eaton(notes) was released Friday by the Baltimore Orioles, who lost patience with the right-hander after he won only two of eight starts.

Joba has only two wins in starts in eight starts. Maybe the Yankees should release him. Cliff Lee and Francisco Liriano have only two wins in eight or more starts. Release them!!!

Francisco Liriano and Cliff Lee's shits have better arms than Adam Eaton. They also give up far fewer long balls.

It is the poor writing I am complaining about. "2 wins in 8 starts" is not a good description of why Eaton was released. I am bothered whenever I see such poor logic displayed by professional writers.

If he had the exact same stat line but had 4 wins in eight starts, he'd still be around for another start or two. Granted, it's not the primary reason why he was released - but teams tend to stick a bit longer with a guy with bad overall stats who manages to winkle an extra win or two.

If he had the exact same stat line but had 4 wins in eight starts he would exist in a parallel universe where every hitter was Ted Williams. How he managed TWO wins is beyond me.

One game, he pitched well, scary well (so got another four starts.)

The other game, Eaton was given 8 runs in the 3rd inning. So he walked the bases loaded, allowed Yanks to crawl back, but wasn't pulled 'til he'd gone five.

When he was pulled last game and Kay said "Adam Eaton is finally being relieved" I am so sure that what he meant to say was "Adam Eaton is finally being released"

And that is the problem. There needs to be clarity in writing. "2 wins in 8 starts" is misleading and describes a symptom and not the underlying cause (he is Adam Eaton and he has not pitched well given another chance).

I can figure out the idea the writer is attempting to convey, but that shouldn't be my job. The writer should not have relied on my knowledge of Adam Eaton and his struggles this season.

Boy, if only someone could have predicted when the Orioles signed him to a minor league contract that it would be a mistake to give him a spot in the rotation. Guess this means we won't be able to trade him for Chris Davis and Neftali Perez in June.

Check him out for yourself, here are some highlights from last night's 14K performance.

He's certainly worth trying at as a starter given his success in the minors, but he threw 114 pitches last night so he's out of the running for Adam Eaton's spot on Tuesday.

Starter, at this point, until he proves he can't do it.

But I'm not reading too much into last night's start; Rochester has a terrible offense. Right now, I want to see Hernandez shut down a couple of good teams - which he has not really done yet. I'm still not sold on his ability to throw his pitches by major league hitters.
