Light ’em up, Bobby Valentine - BostonHerald.com

This article should be titled: Boston Press Goads Red Sox Manager to Provoke Him into Providing Controversial Quotes so They Have Something to Write about in this Lackluster Season.

“Fans are fans,” he said. “They’re going to rationalize whatever they’re going to rationalize. You respect them, because they’re your fans. You need them. In this case, there’s nothing and Brian knows this, and I know it, and anybody involved in the deal knows it. It’s just one of those unfortunate circumstances that just happened.”

It’s the neutering of Bobby V.

We’ve awaited Valentine’s transformation into the “monster that breathes fire” he insisted he was not at his introductory press conference. But it hasn’t happened.
This quote, my friends, sums up John Tomase - and much of the Boston media - perfectly. The irony is majestic.

I had no idea that was a baseball cliche.

Is there some inside joke that I don't know about because that intro quote is not in the article. Also, who is Brian?

It's from the article below, Jack Z talking bout how he and Brian Cashman know there was nothing underhanded in the Pineda-Montero deal. Apparently, Jim liked the quote.

I don't really get this. I know it's your site -- your rules -- but if this just supposed to be some kind of joke, it's kind of...I dunno, not in keeping with this place.

More likely just a mistake.

At this point, what does Valentine have to lose?
Sixty percent of his games.
