Lupica: A-Rod’s age-old question

Leapin’ Lewis Crofts! Scott Hairston (.292 OBP) & A-Rod (.355 OBP)?

It doesn’t mean he is washed up, doesn’t mean he won’t pick it up the second half of the season, He might still get to 30 home runs, even if getting to 100 RBI means that over the Yankees’ remaining 75 games he’ll need the same 62 RBI he got last season.

Still: For someone with his amazing resume, someone who still believes he can hit more home runs than Barry Bonds — it is why the Yankees gave him his insane contract extension after the 2007 season, before they found out he was juicing in Texas — it is an amazing season, to here. Raul Ibanez enters Sunday’s game against the Angels with 11 home runs and 36 RBI.

Even Albert Pujols (his contract is back-loaded, Pujols is only making $12 million for his first season with the Angels) is having a better year so far. In 87 games, Pujols has 336 at-bats, 22 doubles, 14 homers, 52 RBI, a slugging percentage of .458.

You want to look at a statistical comparison, just in baseball New York, the season we’ve seen so far? Scott Hairston of the Mets, in just 72 games and 191 at-bats, has these numbers: 12 doubles, two triples, 12 homers, 35 RBI, a slugging percentage of .524. No wonder the Yankees want to change the subject and talk about how well A-Rod has looked in the field.

What does this have to do with anything?

So typical Lupica. The Yankees are having a great season, continuing to win with Sabathia and Pettitte on the DL, and his focus is on the struggles of A-Rod. Well, I guess that's expected because he no longer has Boss Steinbrenner to kick around every other column. Man, this guy is a broken record of predictability.

A-rod is 36, almost 37. Age-old question answered.

"A-Rod's age-old question"?

"Does this purple lipstick make me look fat?"

I thought most ballplayers age-old question was "Honey, you're 18, right?"....

"How old will I be when someone finally lets me into the Hall of Fame?"

They let me in the hall at age 14, several times in between, and last when I was 39. All I had to do was buy a ticket.

Didn't he hit 2 hr the last time we had a "he is old" thread?

Of course he's old. But maybe they should keep writing these redundant articles, since he just homered off Weaver.

A-Rod: expensive since the NYY got him, but to date more valuable (=better) per $ to the Yanks than Jeter. The king has no clothes, but it works in the NY media since no one notices.

Little Mike trashes A-Rod in every column.

Watch the NY headlines tomorrow. Which gets more press: A-Rod's HR or his baserunning gaffe? Which gets more press: Jeter's offensive contribution, or HIS baserunning gaffe?

Um....ok.
