Macklemore: My Oh My (Dave Niehaus Tribute)

Seattle rapper Macklemore (I suspect but can’t confirm his name is a tribute to Mark McLemore), released this song and video about growing up listening to the late, great Mariners announcer Dave Niehaus.  It was released Jan 2011, so I apologize if this was posted on here then.

What a weird time to post this. I remember when it came out a year and a half ago because it got some attention in Seattle. Then I didn't think of it again for 18 months or whatever, until yesterday, when my fiancee got a link to another one of his songs from her brother, then played this on youtube. Strange synchronicity.

This guy Macklemore is a great front man for everything that is wrong with Seattle hip hop. He's white, saccharine and over-exposed. Meanwhile real talents like the Physics, Fresh Expresso, etc garner little exposure outside of maybe a feature in the Stranger every now and then or KEXP.

I never thought I'd see someone mention the Physics or Fresh Espresso on BBTF. I love those guys, but I would never have heard of either of them if not for living in Seattle and listening to KEXP.

I was talking to a friend yesterday about how I love Seattle and would be elated to move there. I said it sucked that Seattle's hip-hop scene was so bad, that it was just a bunch of white dudes rapping about being depressed and ####. The entire West Coast is kinda slacking right now, with the exception of the Bay Area and the TDE guys. Kendrick Lamar is great.
