OT: Madeleine Albright To Be Awarded The Medal Of Freedom By Obama

I don’t know when or why the Albright meme was started, but…

The first female secretary of state, a former astronaut, and a musical pioneer are among this year’s recipients of the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

President Barack Obama will award the medals at the White House later this spring.

Among this year’s recipients are former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, the first woman to hold the nation’s top diplomatic post; John Glenn, the third American in space and the first American to orbit the Earth; and legendary musician Bob Dylan.

BTF Wiki Gonzalez

Madeleine Albright is an academic, a former U.S. Secretary of State under Bill Clinton, a published author, and a current poster girl on Baseball Think Factory.

How did that happen? The story behind this, as best as we can know:

One day in the Primer Lounge, posters were casually discussing their preferences in beautiful women by linking to their pictures (a process that would eventually result in the Beautiful Women Hall of Fame).

A trickster, perhaps Bernal Diaz, supplied a naked link in the Lounge to what allegedly was a very sexy photo, but in fact was a photo of a very non-naked Madeleine Albright.

At the time this was considered a cheap trick to derail the Lounge thread, not unlike the "Rickrolling" fad elsewhere on the Internet, but Albright's inner beauty has won over many Primates since then. In later Lounges, Bernal Diaz dubbed this type of misleading link an "Albright."

TVerik has developed a reputation for being the most likely Primate to perform an Albright linking to something ostensibly on-topic, usually during Saturday morning Lounges. Jeff K. has pulled this trick more than a few times, but he always makes sure to credit TVerik. In March of 2007, HCO changed the logo of this Wiki to an Albright.

The use of Albrights has become so prevalent that many posters, particularly Bernal, label some links NAA ("Not An Albright") to reassure Primates that the link is what it claims to be.

An 8x10 glossy photo of Madeleine Albright is considered the perfect gift for Primer posters who have enough flannel shirts in their wardrobe to last a lifetime. One portrait of her has adorned the BTF wiki for years (see Logo history).

Can we start a Rich Lederer type campaign to get Medals of Freedom awarded to Mike Piazza and Admiral Ackbar?

I hate it when statespersons like Madeline Albright and Albert Belle win Medals of Freedom

Shouldn't we be shooting for a commission as a Rear Admiral?

Never saw her diplomatize.

Reading the excerpt, I thought that Madeline space-walked and then recorded a concept album.

Agreed, reversing the meme is fun. It's not Bo Derek, but still pretty risque so warning; NSFW

Albright would listen if Obama called.

I have it on good authority - namely, TVErik and Bernal - that Erik was the creator of The Albright.

Never saw him create a meme. I'm just passing along what they both told me.

TVErik was the first to post a redirect to Albright. And I do have a personalized 8x10 glossy. The holy grail is to have your picture taken with Madam Secretary and to have her record your voice mail greeting.
   32. Greg Franklin Posted: April 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM (#4118940)
The holy grail would be for her to join the site and make a post. If she got in trouble, Nomar Garciaparra would rescue her.

I was in her consulting firm's offices a few weeks ago when she walked by in the hall. I had no time for a deke photo.

I feel like one of those guy's who spends their life looking for bigfoot, and then he shows up when they are changing the battery in the camera or something.

I saw Albright speak at my wife's high school a few years back. I think it was before the meme, though. On that day, she wasn't topless.
   39. TVerik Posted: April 29, 2012 at 03:07 PM (#4119087)
There's a "meme" tag?

What are you referring to, BWV? I am inclined to agree, but I don't remember it.

He embedded one in a fake house listing on Craigslist, for an area where someone was looking for a house.
