Marcell Ozuna reveals the once place he didn’t want to be traded to.

Marcell Ozuna, the new St. Louis Cardinals outfielder, met the local fans for the first time Sunday at the team’s annual Winter Warm-Up event and relayed a story that will surely endear him to Cardinals fans for years to come.

And it might earn him some boos the next time he’s in Oakland.

As you might recall, Ozuna’s trade from the Miami Marlins to St. Louis was held in a bit of limbo during the Winter Meetings before it finally became official on both sides. Ozuna — who hit .312 with 37 homers and 124 RBIs last season — was just happy he landed in St. Louis and not the first place to which he thought he was getting traded to.

The autoplay video at the bottom of this article is great. It's George Brett opening up a baseball card pack from 1985 and talking about the players.

Apparently George Brett was almost traded for Tony Perez in 1974. I did not know that.

Telling them where you don't want to go is how you end up in the pawn shop unit.

Not so sure. The story is "I didn't want to go to Oakland." If the story was "I really wanted to come to St Louis" or "I didn't want to go to the Cubs" or maybe even "I didn't want to go to the Royals" I could see some endearment. But "anyplace but Oakland" doesn't strike me as endear-worthy to the fans of anyplace.

to be fair, there is no there there
(visited Oakland 6-8 times, and was not talked out of the Gertrude Stein quote)

Still makes no sense to me that he fell for that.

That's cute. Marcell Ozuna thinks the Cardinals are still a playoff team.

Concur. Lester's too smart for that.

And then it happens again after the story is told! Didn’t Lester tell mcnulty the story and then mcnulty goes and says anywhere but boats?

Out of curiosity, when? I ask because Oaklnd is a booming & vibrant place lately. In many respects it's the new San Francisco, ie it's become what SF used to be, while SF has become increasing homogenized and corporate.

What does Ozuna have against Jon Gruden? Besides the hair, I mean...

With him in the fold they very well could be. ZIPS seems to think they are going to be a very solid team.

No, Landsman came to McNulty back in the first episode and told him if he didn't watch himself he'd end up walking a beat in the Western, and that's when he said he didn't want to ride the boat. Lester told McNulty his story at the end of the fourth episode, retrospectively revealing the significance of the first conversation.

I have to see if I can't talk my wife into watching The Wire again. We both loved it, but she's sometimes reluctant to re-watch downbeat stuff.

Then again, she was really stoked about going to see Fargo last month. Ah, women, who really understands how they think?

I actually just started a rewatch last week -- already most of the way through season 2. It really holds up, and watching it for the second time helped me pick up on a lot of the subplots that were a bit lost on me the first time around, like ***SPOILERS***

Carver being Burrell's snitch in the detail in season 1, or Cheese being the East side (as in closer to the docks) drug dealer who burns Ziggy's car in season 2.

per Post 10 and Oakland, that is a very fair question.
mostly 1990s.

Indianapolis, for one, has grown a lot in that same span.
I mean, it's still pretty boring and every cabbie still sends you to St. Elmo's for steak, but it has improved.
has a real Marriott now, even.
