Marchman: I got a case of Pabst and Steve Phillips is on the tube

Marchman…Out For Blood!

As I’ve written before, Steve Phillips’ announcing schtick doesn’t outrage me, but it’s induced more than the odd eye roll from this direction, and I’ll be taking a drink every time he claims David Wright isn’t having a good year, every time he blames Omar Minaya for guys like Jose Reyes getting hurt, every time he tells some inane story about Fred Wilpon, every time he intimates he’d be doing a better job running the Mets than the people who are actually doing so, every time he puts the team’s failure to be doing better than two games out down to clubhouse problems/atmospherics rather than the shortstop, first baseman, center fielder, no. 2 and no. 3 starters and top setup man being hurt, and chugging if he mentions Mo Vaughn or Jeromy Burnitz. My liver will check in later.

BTF has a lot of hate. I sometimes wonder if 80% of the people would ever admit to doing anything considered hip or cool.

PBR is pretty much as cheap as beer gets, and it definitely tastes better than the other beers at its price point. And I don't feel like having quality beer 100% of the time (sometimes you just want to drink with friends and want beer that is going to go down easy), and you can't even get beer like that at some places.

I shoot a lot of heroin. In my tattoos. While skateboarding.

Then I tweet about it.

I regularly wear a flat cap and scarf combo to concerts.

I drink regular beer that everyone has heard of.

A thing itself is not obnoxious on its own. You have to imbue it with obnoxiousness by intention.

If you drink PBR because you think it tastes good or it's cheap, then I think that's fine. If you drink it because it's hip and trendy and you want to build up your image and have people think you're a cool guy because you consume a certain product, then it's obnoxious.

The beer snob threads on this site are as hip and annoying as any of the kids out on Bedford. ;-)

no, to truly preserve your non-hipster status, you are only allowed to use products in the privacy of your own home. if you ever speak of them or are caught purchasing them, you become a decadent hipster poseur. such is life in the 21st century....

If you think that sounds incredibly stupid, just wait until you see some of the facial hair and/or sneakers worn by this crowd. It's all I can not to push them in front of the L

I feel I have to stick up for my generation a bit here. I think we're actually alright with shoes. There's definitely a lot of neat #### out of there and at least there's some differentiation in our footware.

Shirts and hats, on the other hand, are a whole 'nother story. It feels like 90% of the shirts worn on a weekend night on a college campus are either a lame polo or button-up. We also suck at wearing hats, too -- is there a more telltale sign of a ######### than a kid wearing a knit hat that is twisted to the side and tilted at a 30-degree angle?

Those are beer appreciation threads, my friend. But man, I'm not appreciating my hangover this morning. (Sierra Nevada for the record.)

The only option is to drink mesobrews; those beers that are neither micro nor macro.

Sorry. I'm at about 40% this morning. All I've got is Kent Hrbek pulled Gant off the bag and I was polite to the hipsters in the bar last night even though they were being douchey at the pool table. (Who erases people's names on the sign up list and puts their own? Are we animals? No, sir, we are not!)

I came to my beer snobbery the hard way, I'll let you know. 50 cent National Bohemian quarts in college, a post-college flirtation with Jenny Cream Ale, an "upgrade" to Rolling Rock and Michelob throughout my 20s into my 30s. I did avoid the initial Coors onslaught. Man they advertised the heck out their product when they went nationwide in the 70s.
Once I significantly cut back on quantity, I began to appreciate the quality. I wear my beer snob t-shirt proudly.

#111 is PDF.

There's a reason that pool cues are heavier on the one end and have thin "handles", you know. You get much better "bat" speed that way. And a well-thrown cue ball can cure any list-cutter of ever doing that again.

Is this why Bandit and Snowman were trying to get Coors to Georgia? Was that just a giant product placement?

People looking for a sack beating.

Conveniently enough, the pool table already comes with all sorts of objects suitable for filling the sack.

For a tamer response, polka-dotting the pink-shirt of the offending hipster with a well-chalked cue tip will embarrass said hipster enough to make him leave.
   121. RJ in TO Posted: June 30, 2009 at 12:57 PM (#3237567)
Why would you need a tamer response? They're hipsters! They deserve all the abuse you can dish out.

The funny thing was the the names they erased were of people sitting right by the chalkboard waiting eagerly to play. On another night, it could have been an ugly situation. The offended parties just made a comedic WTF! gesture and made the list right again. It's a good bar, thankfully. No one feels the need to go Alpha male, usually.

At the time, it wasn't sold east of the Mississip'. Yaz used to buy cases of it when the Red Sox were in KC or on the West Coast.

So that Hrbek thread is about an old World Series, huh? Sam H has the memory of an elephant. He's one of the reasons I think people carry long grudges in the sabersphere.

It's a good baseball thread, actually. I think in the future political parties may align themselves on the basis of whether you think Kent Hrbek cheated or not.

Not surprisingly, I have no opinion on the matter. I suspect that many might applaud my neutrality, but both rabid Hrbekians and non-Hrbekians will view me as part of the problem.
