Mariners show some pregame fight with an altercation in the clubhouse

I have to suspect that Clive Anderson would have done a far better job at keeping the clubhouse in line….

Dee Gordon was very polite in his request.

As the media stood near the doors of the Mariners’ clubhouse in Safeco Field, waiting for a 3:20 p.m. media availability with manager Scott Servais, Gordon approached the group and said quietly, “Could you guys clear out of the clubhouse for just a few minutes, please?”

It wasn’t an unreasonable request. Perhaps a meeting of some sort was going to take place. It was quickly obliged and people moved from the entryway in the clubhouse out into a small foyer area of hallways as Gordon shut the doors. Of course, the windows of clubhouse manager Ryan Stiles’ office still offered a small view into the clubhouse.

I would guess there would be lots of swings and misses in that fight.

There was also report of a group of players wanting “to get” Ichiro in 2008.
They couldn't, even though they wanted to. Inverse Property of Ichiro.

The dude from the Drew Carey show? Wow.

What a glorious collapse it's been for the Mariners. John Clayton, on his 10AM show in the middle of June claiming that "the playoffs are wrapped up" did not age well. Of course it's Clayton talking baseball so that was the kiss of death for the Ms.

Seriously tho, why did they extend Dipoto and Servais again? This is a .500 team that was playing at a historical level above their station. It was always going to end badly. That the As have turned into a good team only hastened it. Mariners are down to 5.1% odds on FG.

The White Sox have scored 13 more runs than the Mariners this year. The White Sox aren't trying to win. The fluke pitching performance carried the Mariners for months and now that they have crashed back to earth the mediocre offense can't even get the game to Diaz in the 9th. Again, this was all quite predictable.

I wonder who was napping during meetings.

Eventually yes, but back in June nobody could have predicted how long before the luck reversed. Take the 2012 Orioles for example, they lasted all the way into the playoffs, won 93 games while outscoring opponents by just 7 runs.

That doesn't seem as extreme as the Mariners, who are being outscored. But early on (before August) those Orioles were outscored by over 50 runs yet still had a 55-49 record. You could have predicted they would fall apart like a mirage, but they went 38-20 the last two months (while actually outscoring opponents).

What does this mean, "get"? What could Ichiro possibly have done to deserve "getting" by teammates?

They're still 13 games above their Pythag. They're now 8 games behind the Astros ,who are 8 games WORSE than their Pythag. They should be 30 GB

I believe for most of July they were historically the "most lucky" team ever. That is, they had the biggest delta between pythag expected wins and actual wins in the history of MLB.

Maybe they were annoyed that Ichiro didn't want to hit home runs
