Mariners sign Adam Kennedy to minor league contract

Lincoln has a player named Kennedy.  Kennedy has an owner named Lincoln.

Adam Kennedy… has agreed to a minor-league contract with an invitational [sic] to spring training from the Mariners….

At age 35 he’s likely nearing the end of the line, but Kennedy may still be useful as a platoon player or bench bat limited mostly to facing left-handed pitching. There’s an opportunity for him to work his way into the picture at second base if he thrives this spring or Brendan Ryan struggles, as the Mariners will basically just be keeping the position warm for top prospect Dustin Ackley’s arrival sometime around midseason.

When I saw that Adam Kennedy had to sign a minor league contract, it seemed like a rather quick fall. Last year, there seemed to be some demand for Kennedy as a free agent, with the Nationals signing him for almost $2 million. Kennedy was a 1 WAR player last year, so it's not like he fell below replacement.

Seemed to do well for the Athletics a year earlier. Played a lot of 3rd and hit leadoff.

I think they should see if the Rangers will take him for Napoli.

The only reason Adam Kennedy wasn't a replacement level player is because every major leaguer gets the replacement bonus.*

*Well, that and WAR likes his 14/16 stolen base rate and fielding.
