If the writers were voting today, Rodriguez would fall far short of the necessary 75 percent for induction. The stench of his steroids admission is too recent and wretched to simply dismiss, despite delivering the monster autumn hits we’ve long demanded….
Now, to turn enough voters his way, he must use the next eight years to be a high-profile role model in the fight against steroids. So far, Rodriguez has had one press conference in which he told the truth, part of the truth but not the whole truth. We need to hear much more, the full story. Then, he must meet with President Obama and volunteer to lead a federal anti-steroids campaign, complete with appearances, public-service announcements and exhaustive work that showcases his transparency and commitment to youth. Rather than bury the mistake and hope everyone forgets about it—when we won’t—A-Rod should turn the biggest negative of his career into a positive and set an example of post-steroids reform.
If he does so, he’d have my Hall vote.
Eight years of community service… for A-Rod’s sake, I hope Obama is on board with this.

This is not true. A player needs to be perfect in order to enter my Hall. And the only perfect person to grace this earth is our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He did not play baseball, so He is not in my Hall.
I will make exceptions, under the following conditions:
The baseball player shalt not use not use any PEDs; unless he details his usage exclusively to me, in full detail. Furthermore, the player must submit the following to me:
A blood sample
A urine test
A semen sample
A letter of recommendation from President Obama.
Thanks for your support,
Jay Mariotti
David Cross: "Hey, Jesus? Thanks for the wine. Um...I don't know if it works this way or not, but I got this sage? Maybe you could...no? Okay, then!"

Says Jay Mariotti of Fanhouse.com. Or .net, whatever, nobody ever goes there or has heard of it. Seriously, the chutzpah to dictate to A-Rod what he "must do"; anyone who doesn't vote for him will be the ones who end up paying a price in the whole scenario, not A-Rod.
Has Mariotti said whether he supports Pettitte or not?
I always said I hoped Dave Kingman would hit 500 HR so that everybody could get over this "automatic" thing. I am now hoping for a HoF that includes Pettitte and not ARod, just as a teachable sort of thing.
I feel the same way about Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds.
He would have speed (particularly on wet fields), and excellent strike-zone judgment, but what's he gonna do if you buzz him inside? Turn the other cheek, that's what. The guy would be the next Ron Hunt.
Not to even mention Mark McGwire.
