Mark Grace takes indefinite leave of absence from Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks announced Friday afternoon that television analyst Mark Grace has requested an indefinite leave of absence to seek personal assistance.

Hope he’s OK. He may be kind of a butt, but he’s our butt.

So this is not because he wouldn't wear a polo shirt?

Who is the last D'backs announcer standing?

Craig is saying that Grace got another DUI last night, so he's probably headed to rehab.

I was just about to say authorities believe alcohol was involved.

If there was ever a major league alcoholic pool going I would have put everything I owned and then some on Mark Grace being or becoming an alcoholic.

I remember when Harry Caray interviewed Grace when he was first called up from Iowa. That is all.

Wrong thread.

He has the most DUI's of any announcer of the 2010's. HOF material?

I think he's neck-and-neck with Dan McLaughlin for that one. This could be one of those classic down-to-the-wire competitions.

These guys have nothing on Lary Sorensen.

The article's been updated, Gracie was:

driving his vehicle with a suspended license and without an interlock device, as was required because of a previous DUI in Scottsdale on May 30, 2011.

Those interlocks are a pain but they do the job there supposed to. Just not if he is driving another vehicle

That nugget makes me think there will be jail time for this one.

I'm sure he'll get to meet Sheriff Joe.

For those keeping score, the Dbacks' TV now will be the radio team of the last few seasons: Greg Schulte and Tom Candiotti. Good pairing - lots of info, no frills and gimmicks. (And full-time on the radio will be, I think, Jeff Munn and Mike Fetters.)

For the longest time I hated Grace as a color man, but after Sutton was bounced and Schulte took the mic Grace improved remarkably. Maybe Sutton brought out the worst in Gracie.

It was the same story in Milwaukee. Replacing Sutton with Brian Anderson made the other guy in the booth (Bill Schroeder) a lot more tolerable. Sutton is awful.

I think grace is bad no matter what. I wonder is he was out looking for a slump buster

At least he wasn't on steroids.

I would rather he roided instead of being a drunk and a partier. might have developed into a decent power hitter.

In related news, The Red Sox announced Friday afternoon that the entire Red Sox Nation has requested an indefinite leave of absence to seek personal assistance.

In his last years with the Cubs I would change channels whenever Grace was batting. I can't think of any other player I hated as much, no not even Milton Bradley.

Maybe if his name was Miguel.

That was why I said that. Wasn't he very proud of the fact that he (supposedly) didn't use drugs that could make him a better ballplayer. He would only have a beer or two, or ten, after a game.

It's kind of nice to know that Grace might have wasted in an instant all the capital he built up with the baseball media over a sixteen-year career of stabbing teammates in the back with anonymous quotes.

That said, I'm glad he didn't drive into a post and kill himself. He's a jerk, but he's not that big a jerk.

Who replaces him in the racing legends?

They'll keep him in it, but the Grace racer will just stumble into things.

Provided that everyone save Grace serves time afterwards, I would pay money to see Steven Seagal drive a tank through Mark Grace's living room.
