Marlins C John Buck helps rescue two women from overturned car

A hero, but he’s no Nomar.

‘I pulled out of the entrance (of his neighborhood) and I saw this car upside down and smoking. I kind of saw a hand pulling at the window,’’ he said.

“I looked at my wife and my wife’s like, ‘Go help! Just go!’’

Buck ran to the overturned car and went to work with two other Good Samaritans.

Buck and a bus driver who stopped to give assistance were able to help the car’s driver crawl out of a window of the upside-down car. Buck and another man pulled the passenger out.

Buck also called 911, but at the scene he said. “I didn’t do a whole lot of talking — everybody was speaking Spanish around me.’’

It didn’t take long for police and paramedics to arrive. Buck said the injuries to the two elderly women did not look life-threatening. He said he thinks the passenger might have suffered a broken leg; the driver didn’t appear to be physically hurt too much.

“It wasn’t that serious,’’ he said. “But the car upside down and the way it landed, the two older ladies were pretty lucky.’’

Buck didn’t stick around too long – he was on his way to pick up his son from school.

“I pulled them out, then the police came, I gave my report and was like, ‘Guess my job’s over.’ So I took off.’’

Well, you just have to click through to see a picture of the deer Buck shot for sport. Big rack on it, the deer obviously had it coming. What a hero.

Had Albert Pujols been there, he wouldn't have saved them because there weren't enough victims.

How do you know the deer wasn't responsible for smashing up the car and flipping it over? He was just finishing the job, protecting all the other elderly Hispanic ladies that racist deer would have murdered in the future.

Good job for Buck. Serious question - since the car was smoking, it seemes best to get the passengers out. Buck and others had to make a quick assessment of the situation. If the car is not smoking it would seem keeping the passengers calm and in place until the help arrived could be the right thing. Wondering if anyone with some training in this department has a thought.

I'm not trained or anything but as I understand it, if there's no fire or immediate danger for the victims, you shouldn't move them for fear of causing further injury such as spinal injuries until the emergency services arrive.

When I first said the headline I thought it said "Joe Buck" and I was really excited to see what the comments were going to be.

If it was Joe Buck, the two women would have noted how calm he was during the rescue. "He never once raised his voice or showed any emotion."

Aren't there supposed to be a bunch of Nomar Garciaparra jokes here or something?

If the car still has the key in the ignition, make sure it is turned off. If it is on, the fuel pump and ignition circuits may be on and capable of starting a fire.

I've seen that movie! It often starts out that way but she always jumps in at some point.
