Marlins fire Ozzie Guillen

Guillen had three years and $7.5MM remaining on his contract with Miami. Bench coach Joey Cora has also been dismissed, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports

Think that Loria could find a better use for $7.5 mill?

Huh, I guess Guillen/Cora are a package deal; Cora has often been discussed as future manager material, so I don't think you'd fire him just for kicks.

It'll be interesting to see whether Guillen and Cora can overcome this semi-disaster and get managerial jobs. I suppose the answers are "probably" and "who knows", respectively.

Toronto, and it's not particularly close. The Marlins are in absolute disarray from top to bottom at this point.

The odds are pretty good they do not hire anyone to replace Guillen as manager, rather they leave managerial decisions to a dolphin in right field that swims to either a "YES" sign or "NO" sign.

Dolphins aren't cheap. Jose Canseco will swim to a YES or NO sign for half of what a dolphin gets.

I'm stunned Leyland's 1998 season didn't drag him down below Ozzie. Not counting one game tenures, McKeon is the only guy over .500, no surprise, followed by two guys who did much better elsewhere: Fredi Gonzalez (.497 with the Marlins, .565 with Atlanta) and Joe Girardi (.481 with the Marlins, .591 in NY).

According to Forbes estimates (which are net of their revenue sharing estimates), Loria put up $20+ million of his own cash into the club each year from 2003 to 2005.

I met Ozzie a few months ago when he was in town. Didn't talk a lot to him but he seemed like a pretty nice guy to hang out with at a bar and watch a game with.
