Marlins GM stands by ‘veterans have crapped all over themselves’ comment

Is there a Salvation Miracles Revival Crusader in the house?

Miami Marlins General Manager Michael Hill Tuesday morning was reminded of the straightforward evaluation he offered about the team in front of the Showtime camera.

In “The Franchise: A Season With The Miami Marlins,” Hill says: “We have certain veterans who we thought would carry us in Hanley [Ramirez] and [Jose] Reyes, and that the kids would take that next step. [Giancarlo] Stanton to his credit is for the most part taking that step, but [Logan Morrison] has not and the veterans have crapped all over themselves.”

...“I had to smile hearing a replay of that,” Hill said, leading up to his interview with Joe Rose on 560 WQAM. “I don’t think in any part where you see us talking baseball [on ‘The Franchise’] that there’s anything the general public hasn’t seen unfold on the field. That’s the truth of the matter. As we put the club together we were relying heavily on our veterans and the proven guys with track records to do what they’re capable of doing. To this point they haven’t done that on a consistent basis. That’s a big reason why we are where we are.”

...“That’s the big question and really what keeps me up and night and keeps all our baseball people up at night,” Hill said. “You want to try to explain it. You want to understand what’s going on so you don’t repeat any mistakes as you move forward. You’re talking about guys with track records who are in the primes of their careers, who are for whatever reason underperforming. It’s definitely frustrating because we’ve seen them perform at their best and we’ve seen flashes of what they can do, but unfortunately to this point we haven’t done it enough and we haven’t done it consistently enough, so we felt like we needed to make some changes.”

For the franchise's 20th anniversary in 2013, I suggest this slogan: "Marlins baseball -- two decades of the absurd."

No doubt in fear over that monstrosity past the outfield walls.

If nothing else, baseball fans around the country now have a reason to remember who Florida's GM is.

I would have gotten it wrong. Coulda sworn it was still Larry Beinfest.

Actually though, isn't this one of those nominal arrangements where Hill is technically the "general manager" but Beinfest is really still the eminence grise? Kind of like Theo in Chicago?

If nothing else, baseball fans around the country now know that the team has been renamed the "Miami Marlins."

To be fair, Miami is full of veterans who crap themselves.

Now every time you do that you'll think of the Marlins!

I feel sorry for Ozzie. I bet he didn't know what kind of foul-mouthed boss he would have in Miami.

Well, where should they be crapping?

The Red Sox veterans are crapping the bed. That's what I would suggest.

It could be worse - Carlos and Ozzie could be flinging crap at each other.

This poo topic is in no way amusing. Brody Weiss nearly died after his dad Walt dropped the kids off at the pool.

The Wilford Brimley ad for adult diapers with Marlins logos is being filmed as we speak.
