Marlins Man prepares epic return to Marlins Park

It’s hard to make jokes when almost every line is its own punchline…..

The best-known fan in sports, Marlins Man, is planning an unforgettable return to Marlins Park. You can be part of it and eat/drink for free.

Laurence Leavy, a lawyer-turned-superfan, will attend his first game of the season at Marlins Park on Monday Sept. 17 against the Washington Nationals.

But Marlins Man is doing it up huge.

Football has loads of fans who dress up weird and have lots of fun and spend oodles of cash for 8 games (plus preseason) and no one is surprised. One of those kind of people loves baseball (or at least their city's being part of it) and serious fans mock him.
Never heard of him before, I was expecting Jeff Conine, but I hope he makes a few baseball fans along the way.

From TFA:
He won two prizes from the team's charity auction. Marlins Man had the winning bid for both the "broadcaster experience" and "player for a day."

Among the perks he will receive as a benefit for donating to the Marlins Foundation: Marlins Man will sign an honorary one-day contract with the team, hold an official press conference with Michael Hill, attend Don Mattingly's coaches meeting, present the lineup card, and be interviewed on-air during the Marlins broadcast. Also, Marlins Man will have the chance to shag balls in the outfield during batting practice.
. . .
To help share his experience with others, the attorney bought every available pair of seats in the left field stands. He plans to bring 300 fans who can win their tickets right here on Slaterscoops.com. As an added bonus, those fans who win tickets and wear orange will be receiving free food, soda, and beer on Leavy. Each winner receives a pair of tickets. If there are more than 150 winners, Leavy says he will buy more seats.

An entire section with unlimited free beer? What could go wrong? Entry form for the free tickets is at the bottom of the linked page. South Florida Primates should make it a group outing.

You've seen him, he's the guy in the orange Marlins jersey sitting behind home plate at seemingly every postseason game the last few years.

I don't hate him, I just like to make fun of him. In interviews he seems like a decent guy and buying a whole section on behalf of fans seems magnanimous, even though the money is going into the Marlins' coffers. I'm in SoFLA, but had not considered going.

I read the article, and it's quite good. You have to love Marlins man asking Derek Jeter if he knows who he is.

This guy doesn't seem to be that big of a douche, like I had always assumed he was(I mean he's a lawyer, that is strike one against him. He's a fan of a NL East team, which is another strike...:) )

Just quickly doing the math, 300 tickets is about $4,500 dollar for where he bought them, for this guy, that doesn't seem that big of a cost(he was willing to pay $66,666 a year for 4 tickets for one season) Not sure how much soda and beer is going to run him though, you have to assume a minimum of $20 per person, so that is another $6,000.

Does it say unlimited though? I was thinking it was more going to be just a beer/soda and food.

Does it have to? Would Marlins Man really stiff you after a single 12 oz. draft? Not in my world!

I didn't realize he ever went to Marlins games. I guess he's still the only fan dressed in Marlins' gear even there.
