Marlins President David Samson is Going to Run 50 Miles Because He Can

For Brattain…

The Miami Marlins chief munchkin wants to show South Florida what a tough little Ironman he is. Team President David Samson is going to run 50 miles on April 17, from Pompano Beach to Coral Gables, in honor of the 5,000 workers who built the new Marlins Stadium. We’re sure they’re thrilled. Who wouldn’t want to root for the guy who smugly snookered Miami-Dade and Miami officials into building his ex-step-daddy’s baseball palace with more than half-a-billion in taxpayer dollars?

Sure he thinks the rest of us poor mopes are all a bunch of sad sacks who are no where near his one percent on the intelligence and and filthy rich scale. But, gosh darn it, Samson can run like the dickens! And he’s doing it for charity too! Hooray for Samson!

I thought he was only a short distance runner.

Best regards.

He should carry a sack with a dollar sign on it during the run.

He should start at the new stadium and run 50 miles due east.

Samson may well be a creep of the highest order but he's raised over $500,000 so far for various charities with this event. That's a nice thing.

Unless proven otherwise, I will assume he's molesting the children.

Yeah, as desperately as the author wanted to bring the snark in this piece, it just doesn't fit. He's running a lot farther than most any of us can while raising money for charities. As atrocities go, that one's pretty far down the list.

(And yes, in most every other endeavor, the Randy Levine of South Beach deserves all of our scorn).

Not buying it. Samson is still a scumbag and deserves nothing but scorn. Call me when the amount of money he has raised for charity equals the amount the Marlins extorted from the local taxpayers.

Or the amount taken at gunpoint from the popular and successful baseball franchises.

Don't you think Robin Hood kept a little for wine, women and sundry expenses?

Not buying what? I'm not claiming Samson isn't a scumbag. Just that the author's attempts at snark here fall horribly flat.

The money spent on Marlins stadium would fund more good public outcomes than this stunt.

Robin Hood, sure, but Robbin' Bud knows his Merry Men deserve a good deal more.

The Marlins have built a successful franchise. Loria and Samson aren't any bigger crooks than their baseball compadres. They're just more obvious about it.

Absolutely but that's on the politicians who approved this thing more than Samson. If you expect businessmen to be thinking of anything other than their own self-interest that's on you. I'm not a fan of Samson but his job isn't to make Miami better, it's to make the Marlins rich. The politicians who bent over and breathed deeply are the ones who are supposed to be looking out for the citizens of Miami.

Samson is raising money for charity here. This is a good deed. It doesn't offset all his bad deeds, that's fine, but he doesn't deserve ridicule for this. I think the writer comes across as petty and bitter, not witty at all.

Wait a minute. Robin Hood steals money from my pocket, forcing me to a shoe-string $200 million budget, and they waste their sympathy on the people of Miami?
That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off the World Series.

You know what happens when you assume? You make an ass out of David Samson, so he starts molesting cats.

I'd be more worried about what the kittens are thinking.

Anyone want to support me as I raise money for charity running a slightly more feasible 26.2 miles this fall? I haven't robbed any taxpayers!

What a hateful lie. That's just how David Samson and cats clean themselves.

Blastin, are you running New York? I'm registered in the lottery, hoping to get in.

Samson/Lauria were the ones who started the effort and paid the politicians, it most certainly is on him. Your viewpoint is akin to blaming the Waffen SS for the Holocaust. I expect my capitalists who pursue naked self interest to combine it with total self reliance, and it's open season on the rest.

I'll probably walk a total of 26.2 miles between now & the end of the baseball season.

Maybe.

OK, not very likely.

Now a lot of you are saying, why did we, why should we cheer for David Samson, who raped and killed a girl in 1990? Should we even waste two seconds on David Samson, who raped and killed a girl in 1990?

Well, first of all, it's not true. It's not true that David Samson raped and killed a girl in 1990.

So if you have any proof that David Samson raped and killed a girl in 1990, stop gossiping and go right to the police with it.

Yeah I didn't want to bank on that since timing dictates I would definitely be in and around NYC all year and could train effectively and I don't for sure know if I will be here next year.

I signed up to run with/for Team for Kids, since I care a lot about health for youth and education (since I'm a teacher and all). So, that's my plan. Good luck with the lottery. I guess you must be finding out soon.

The government subsidizes all sorts of industries it probably shouldn't. Sports stadiums are probably among the least justifiable, but they are just the tip of the iceberg.

Awesome, good luck. I figure if I don't get in I'll just run a different marathon in the fall. Philly is around the same time, so that's an option. Either way, I'll have done my 9 + 1 pretty soon so I'll have automatic entry to NY next year.
