Marmol leaves Reds to take ‘mental break,’ is uncertain of return date

“He just wants to take a mental break,” Kinzer wrote. “Physically he is fine. He was still throwing in the mid ‘90s.”

Get well soon Carlos!  You are always an exciting guy to have around as long as you are on someone else’s team.

His slider was a thing of beauty before the league figured him out.

In 2009, an old friend and I attended a couple of the Tigers/Cubs games at Comerica. We had bleacher seats, but decided to hang out by the railing past the centerfield wall. The first night, I wore my Carlos Marmol t-shirt jersey. The Cubs were either up a run or tied, but the Tigers were threatening with the bases loaded. Sweet Lou brought in Marmol, who promptly walked in a run. Me and my t-shirt jersey sure heard it from the masses of Tigers fans around me.

For years it seemed I'd have the same conversation twice or three times a week with my Cub-fan father: "Well, BDC, the Cubs almost won last night. Took the lead and {Starter} pitched OK." "But they lost, Dad." "Well sure, they brought in Marmol again."

I wish him well. As much as I hate to admit it, some things are more important than baseball.

If this is serious enough that he feels like he needs to walk away for a while, it must be really bad for him. That sucks and I hope he's able to conquer it.

Henry Rodriguez is available. That is, if they want a fireballer who has no idea where his pitches are going.

Basically, the Cubs had two ubder-talented pitchers with filthy stuff named Carlos who both imploded before their arms blew up... If I'm Carlos Villanueva, I'm visiting witch doctors on a regular basis...
