MASN: Strasburg gives it to Reds and heckling fan

Look who’s talking too heckling fa….Oh, ####…my bad.

Strasburg went 5 and 2/3rds innings allowing three runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out seven batters.

All you need to know about the fire of the competitor that is Strasburg occurred when he was taken out of the game in the sixth.

With the Nats up 7-3, a Reds fan behind the visitor’s dugout was giving it to Strasburg.

As he walked down the stairs to the dugout to high fives from his teammates, Strasburg yelled back “Scoreboard! Scoreboard!” and pointed to the video jumbo screen in left field that showed the Washington lead.

Willie Harris said it pumped him up to hear Strasburg get after the fan and said “Let ‘em have it, Stras!”.

I'm just poking around BB-Ref, and it seems that Strasburg now holds the record for most consecutive starts at the beginning of a career (9) where K >= IP for every game (min 5IP).
The previous record holder was Herb Score.

Don't even mention Herb Score when discussing Strassberg. that is worse than saying "no hitter" in the middle of a no-hitter. And we KNOW how that always ends.

DeWayne Wise makes a phenomenal catch, and the perfect game is preserved?

The greatest genocide in the history of mankind?

Good to see Sliced Bread hasn't lost his high school ways and is still taunting opposing fans. It's cute, really.

0.5 HR/9
2.5 BB/9
12.4 K/9
5.00 K/BB

Ok, so is he really going to be able to sustain those rates for the rest of the year, and his career. He's just 21 and already has RJ or Schilling like peripherals.

Proof that playing to the score exists.

Amazingly, RJ and Schilling generally couldn't get near that home run prevention rate (granted, I wouldn't extrapolate 54 innings too much). Peak Pedro was better though.

yeah I agree, but he's really been consistent with his K/BB, showing amazing control for a 21 year old. Every time he pitches it's ~6 IP, 1-2BB, 7+ K, with variable hits/runs. People who swear by xFip must be slurping up Strasburg.

This seems like dialogue straight out of a 1950s movie.

Would you rather he'd given the fan the 1995 Jack McDowell treatment?

This constituted Willie Harris' sole contribution to the 2010 Nationals, to date.

No, I'd rather he shut his mouth, go back to the dugout, and hope like hell his team wins. That Reds fan is in first place (God, that looks weird), and Stras will be home by Columbus Day.

Is he in your fantasy league?

A Dusty Baker team has never blown that large of a lead before, so I understand your confidence. Oh, that's right, the Reds already aren't in first place.

Seriously dude, if you're going to rip on a guy that way, you should at least look at the standings first so you don't make a fool out of yourself in the process.

In a SI article by Posnanski about Strasburg's AAA start in Rochester, Joe Altobelli was quoted as saying Strasburg reminded him of Herb Score.

I instantly got that uneasy feeling.

Not for a while now.

and that qualifies as good? isn't that worse then the worse performance that Jaime Garcia has managed this year, in three times the number of starts?

No, unless you're like me and prefer to pretend that interleague starts didn't really happen.

Eh, I don't think this is much of a positive or a negative, but it does help to remind us how young Strasburg still is.

It is interesting that something like this gets viewed as evidence of a "fiery competitor", whereas Lastings Milledge high-fiving the fans after a game-tying home run was construed as a rookie not knowing his place. I don't know if that's due to race or the difference in performance levels, but I thought it was worth noting.

Racism for sure. I just traded Pujols for Youkilis and Strasburg in a keeper fantasy league. Who here cares about my fantasy team?
