Matt Kemp excited to be back with Dodgers

It’s all made up! Will he make it to the Opening Day roster?

“People make up things,” Kemp said. “If you ask the guys in this clubhouse I played with, I’ve never been a troublemaker. I don’t know where that came from. I don’t think the guys I played with have ever had a problem with me. People can make up what they want to think.

“If I have one regret from my first time here, it’s that I resisted moving to left field. You live and learn. It’s good to be back here. I got a whole new outlook on life. I’m having fun. I’m going to ride this thing until the wheels fall off.”

Too bad the Dodgers don't feel the same way.

How is a guy who came up as a CF such a bad defender? Both BB-ref and fangraphs (UZR) have him quite a bit below average consistently.

Hadn't heard.

As a Braves fan, I'm excited he is back with the Dodgers too. Now if only the good guys could stop with the silliness of adding a Markakis or Phillips or Dickey or Grilli or whomever thinking that the fans want cheap "name" players.

He has gotten fat and now runs like he is carrying CC Sabathia on his back. Add to that poor jumps and limited instincts.

Yeah, and the latter part is key. He was mediocre at best in his early 20s. And the intervening years have not been kind.

The arthritic hips probably don't help.

But he's lost 40 lbs!

Someone should probably start a BSOHL (Best Shape Of His Life) tag for these stories.

I’m going to ride this thing until the wheels fall off.

Er...have you checked under your fenders in the last few years?

Calcaterra in the bit linked in #7 says that this doesn't apply here:
And for what it’s worth, I’m not going to put this in the Best Shape of His Life category. A judgment call, mostly, in that it didn’t seem calculated to improve Kemp’s stock as opposed to simply being an observation. BSOHL usually comes with some sort of propaganda angle. This seems more like a “dang, Kemp’s lost some weight” thing.
IOW, he was real fat before, and is a lot less fat now.

geez, he was killing it back in 2011-2012, and he was fun to watch ... then he got injured. yeah, his hips really let him down. i have a soft spot for him cuz i saw him play when he was MVP material. i hope he has a little bounce back.

He might be in better shape than he was in 2017, but there's no way he can get back to best shape of his life without a time machine. He was once a near 40-40 MVP candidate.
