1. KronicFatigue Posted: February 05, 2012 at 12:14 PM (#4053824)You can't look at it in isolation. Having both Gardner and Jeter at the top of the lineup delays Granderson and Cano coming to bat, especially since they probably won't be batting next to each other. With Tex and Arod having down years, I'd even consider shaking up the heart of the lineup and moving either to the 2 hole. But, the safer play would be:
Vs. Righty:
Gardner
Granderson
Arod
Cano
Tex
Swisher
Jeter
DH?
Martin
Vs. Lefty
Jeter
Granderson
Arod
Cano
Tex
Jones
Swisher
Martin
Gardner
#1: I don't have that much faith that Granderson has discovered the secret against LHP and would probably slide Swishter, Jones, Tex, Martin ... somebody into the #2 hole and put Granderson about 7th.
Saber-dude Mark Simon has tweeted/FB that he has been "helping out" with these Matthews pieces.
I find it remarkable that a guy that was pretty much anti-saber is now coming around. Sorta.
Yep.
Wouldn't that have more to do with him being the number two hitter during his peak years in a higher offense era?
