Memories of Kevin Malone: Kershaw’s personal catcher

The same trend holds true for every pitcher in the starting rotation except one: Clayton Kershaw. While he has been solid with Martin behind the dish (.693), Kershaw has been almost untouchable throwing to Ausmus (.379). In fact, he is yet to give up a run with Ausmus as his receiver.

Granted, this entire post has sample size problems, but it’s something worth considering. Besides, it seems like Martin could use the rest.

For whatever reason, pitchers love throwing to Ausmus.

Asmus has stayed in the league for years longer than one would deem appropriate given his offense. There likely is SOMETHING to it

It's not like the Dodgers lose much in the way of offense sitting Martin this year, so go with it.

Martin's defense has been good this year though.

On the one hand, I hate for a young pitcher to get used to a personal catcher. On the other hand, Martin does need a day or two off a week, and this would be a way to guarantee that Torre won't start overusing him if he ever starts hitting like years past.

like i keep telling people, i know that a whole lot of male fans HATE ausmus because he is so incredibly smokkking HOTT (because they hate him moren other catchers who are NOT, who hit just as lousy)

but

roger clemens said, on the record, that ausmus is THE best catcher he has ever thrown to. a whole lot of other pitchers have said the same thing.

i figure the pitchers oughtta know who is good to throw to

Possibly, but we're also talking about the Astros which is where he got most of those years. Their catcher and shortstop spots are two of the biggest black holes in MLB history.

Yes. A black hole that swallowed all balls hit near it.

#7: I'm sure you meant offensive black holes, as Adam Everett was a pretty stellar shortstop.

EDIT: I even read #8 and didn't put 2 + 2 together.
