Mets accidentally send out Sandy Alderson’s credit card information

There are some things money can’t buy. For everything else there’s Matsuzaka.

A Mets staffer goofed Friday when inadvertently sharing general manager Sandy Alderson’s credit card information in an email to members of the New York media.

Alderson’s credit card number, security code, expiration date and zip code wound up in the email.

Apparently, Alderson had been hoping to score last-minute tickets to see “The Lion King” this weekend, and the email appeared to be directed to somebody on Broadway capable of landing the tickets.

It matters not. The Mets-issued card probably only has a daily purchase limit of $9.99.

How the #### can they not just get last minute tickets for the Lion King themselves?

Ticketmaster shows rear orchestra seats available, and I'm sure you could just call one of the many, many brokers dealing with Broadway tickets for resale.

This intern seems to lack initiative as well as the ability to confirm email addresses before sending.

I completely thought the Lion King thing was a joke. HOLY ####! That's what he was trying to buy?

Wow.

If the Mets staff weren't so busy lining up non-baseball entertainment options for Sandy Alderson, they might have found themselves a ball player or two.

Be fair, it should have taken less than a minute to purchase the Lion King tickets. You have to be almost tragically incompetent to not find tickets for a 20 year old show.

Dear American Express,

I am writing to dispute an incorrect charge on my statement of April 2014. The charge I am disputing is labelled "C. Granderson" and is also circled on the attached copy of my statement. I dispute this charge because the Curtis Granderson I received was defective and the seller has refused to refund the purchase price.

I am providing the following evidence in support of my dispute:

Please investigate this dispute and provide me with a written statement of the outcome. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Sandy Alderson

Maybe the reason I disliked it so much is that I saw the un-ravelling version.

You gotta see it with George. I daresay Broadway's never seen a performer look more regal in a tracksuit.

You obviously missed the encore where they do a bangup version of "Raveling Man " and then go straight into an equally banging cover of Led Zeppelins "Ravel On".

But do they do "Boléro"?

I don't know anything about the current iteration. But the Julie Taymor version that was on Broadway in the late '90s was hugely popular. I could easily believe that this one is too.

Mets staffers, apparently. As we see, they're not the brightest bulbs.

But Alderson can't arrange for his own tickets on his own, or have a family member do it? Sheesh, does he still call his assistants "secretaries" and have them get coffee for him?

What the hell is an assistant for if not to get your coffee for you?

The honeymoon for Alderson is probably nearing its end, anyway. He's had years now and has failed to do much with the team, including not electing to trade Jose Reyes, not acquiring a major league caliber SS for this year, and doing things like choosing to overpay for Curtis Granderson. Finally, Alderson continues to employ a manager who plays Bobby Abreu over Juan Lagares. Of course, Alderson is also the guy who put Abreu on the team to begin with. So his suckitude exhibits itself in various ways.

Honestly, I don't know what to think about Alderson. He had great success running a team (late 80's Athletics) and was pretty high up in MLB administration. You'd think if he wanted back into the GM business he'd have his pick of jobs, and the Mets job is probably the last one you'd pick. There has to be something more to this -- Alderson is sent by MLB to make sure the Wilpons don't steal all the brass fittings from the stadium and sell them for scrap, or something like that.

Alderson did pretty good work with the Padres in the 2000s, too. He's had some pretty spectacular unique challenges in his Mets job, but it's also true that sometimes a guy loses his fastball.

What the hell is an assistant for if not to get your coffee for you?

Only speaking from my own experience here, but:

- Answering the phone when I'm away/busy (and having judgment as to when she should interrupt whatever I'm doing)
- Booking (and frequently modifying) business travel plans
- Planning meetings and reserving the appropriate accomodations
- Processing expenses
- Various other administrative tasks--filing, sending packages, updating contacts, etc.

It's fine if you want your assistant to get you coffee/lunch too--I've asked mine to do so when I'm stuck in a long meeting or conference call. But those things are usually easy for me to do myself, whereas the other stuff is not. Plus she covers a few other people in the office besides me.
