Mets have talked to teams about trading Matt Harvey: sources - NY Daily News

Flip him for a reliever. His stock can’t get much lower.

“They are willing to move him,” one source said, “and they said they wanted to try and flip him for a reliever. They seemed more willing to move him then (Robert) Gsellman or (Seth) Lugo.”

Lugo, ok, but Gsellman?? He was as bad as Harvey last year, with only a sliver of Harvey's history of success (limited as that is in its own right). I guess the additional years of team control are worth something, but they have years of team control over a lot of pitchers who could scrape together a 6.00 ERA in a MLB rotation.

Am I the only Met fan around here that thinks Gsellman is any good? He was awful last year but I think he still has a shot to be a back of the rotation type starter.

It's likely as simple as the Mets thinking that there's something wrong with Harvey's shoulder that's never going to be right again. In that case it's not his history of success vs Gsellman's lack of same, but rather the relative quality of their tendons and ligaments and so forth.

Matt Harvey for Jurickson Profar has been discussed. Nothing firm.

Would be an interesting challenge trade.

You aren't the only one, I'm still on the Gsellman bandwagon, and I think Harvey's arm is toast.

I assume it's because Harvey will get at least $5 M in arb. If they didn't want him, they should have non-tendered him. He's also FA at the end of the year while Gsellman isn't even arb-eligible until 2020.

I am happy to move on from Harvey, but the I'd really like the team to get a veteran #3 starter. They have too many guys who can be expected to throw 5 innings.
