Mets shake up coaching staff | Newsday

How many advisors will be in the Mets front office?

The changes:

      Hitting coach Pat Roessler is fired.   Ruben Amaro Jr. is moving from first-base coach to a front-office adviser role.   Gary DiSarcina is moving from bench coach to third-base coach.   Glenn Sherlock is moving from third-base coach to first-base coach.   Ricky Bones is moving from bullpen coach to a player-development role to be decided.

"You did such a good job deciding when to send the runner to second base that we're putting you in a position to make personnel decisions!"

I mean, the other option is that they reviewed his performance at his previous job and decided to tap into that expertise. I mean, I know it's the Mets, but that's still a bit of a stretch.

They interviewed Dave Littlefield for the GM job, so if that's the standard, I can see how Amaro would look good by comparison.

One hopes that the "front-office adviser role" means the guy still has a contract and is being moved into a job of zero responsibility instead of just getting fired.

Is there a general hierarchy for the coaching positions?

Third base coach > first base coach, because he gets to give signs and wave runners home.

But how does bench coach rate against third base coach? I think both positions can be stepping stone to manager?
