Mets will place Noah Syndergaard on 10-day DL with strained index finger

New York Mets Opening Day starter Noah Syndergaard is headed to the 10-day disabled list with a strained index finger on his pitching hand.

The Mets announced that Syndergaard was examined Tuesday after experiencing soreness in his right index finger. The move to the DL will be retroactive to May 26.

Not a Mets fan, but self-immolating nonetheless on behalf of my fantasy team.

self-immolation warning level reaches 4 (WAY more room to climb)

The "strained finger" is going to turn out to be a rotator cuff tear.

Don't worry, the Mets bullpen will carry them.

So tonight Vargas is pitching on 3-days rest (67 pitches) and sucks. Lugo is starting tomorrow. They've played 13 games in the last 12 days. The members of the bullpen left standing, and their pitches thrown the last two days when the bullpen had to cover 14 innings are:

Familia (28)
Blevins (30)
Bautista (6)
Gsellman (27)
Rhame (42)
Robles (45)
Seawald (48)

and all but Robles and Familia have sucked. I'm guessing Vargas will be throwing until his arm falls off because they're basically out of pitchers. The Vegas shuttle has already gone through at least 3 players too.

Tim Peterson, Buddy Baumann and Scott Copeland to the rescue. God help us.

The corresponding moves, including a DFA of Belfast’s P.J. Conlon

And he's taking his keg of Guiness with him!

Jacob Rhame and Phillip Evans to Las Vegas.

Conlon DFA and Juan Lagares to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster.

I have heard of very few of these players.

Oh, come on, you know, Scott Copeland. 15.1 innings for the Marlins in 2015! That Scott Copeland.

Mats will avoid the DL. And another couple of hits yesterday for Rosario--easy to forget, given how bad he looked at the plate this year, that he had a lot of success in the minors at a fairly young age. Still not walking at all (2 in May!) but at least he's finally seeing a run of success, 3 straight multihit games. Still wondering if hitting 9th is the best place for him, but probably doesn't matter much in the long run.

That's where he's been most successful this year.

That was one helluva DP turned last night. Props to both Rosario & Cabrera.

Yeah it made a degree of sense at the start of the year, with all of the regulars healthy. But now that they're starting a bunch of guys who are clearly worse hitters, it seems like they'd want to reconsider.

If he doesn't start learning how to walk, he'll have to hit .300 to have any value, so he's not forcing the issue just yet. With Frazier hopefully back soon, they won't be running scrubs out there at 3b much longer...
