Mets, Yankees tell fans to keep hands off souvenirs at stadiums

It’s the one souvenir fans want to avoid in their final visits to Yankee and Shea stadiums - an official pair of NYPD handcuffs.

With both the Yankees and the Mets set for their final regular season home stands this month, security and scrutiny have been set on high to deter vandals intent on swiping even a small piece of New York baseball history.

Already this year, fans have been found stealing outfield bunting, Shea Stadium seats, even a Yankee Stadium toilet seat - an indication of possible trouble ahead.

“We’re going after this like a World Series game,” said a Yankees spokesman. “This is a part of history.”

I'm pretty sure the fans at Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium will recognize that they outnumber the police by far, and (some) will assume the teams want to avoid some ugly incident like using tear gas on the whole bleacher section. As a result, I'm pretty sure a series of ugly incidents will ensue.

I don't approve of stealing, but, knowing the fan base, I think a lot of stuff is going to get stolen.
They can save on demolition costs by handing out chisels and safety glasses for the last series.

Don't worry, there is already a plan to avoid any and all ugly incidents. The Yankees have subcontracted stadium security out to the Minneapolis/ St Paul police departments, who fresh of their success at the Republican National Convention, will make sure there are no embarrassing or ugly incidents. As a bonus media coverage of the events is guaranteed to be 100% favorable, as everyone in the pressbox will be arrested before the last series starts.

The Mets were going to get in on this, but the Minneapolis police insisted that they include Fernado Martinez in the deal, and the Mets figured they'd sent enough to Minnesota already.

OCD, the real answer is of course not to depend on Twin Cities police for your major-type crackdowns. The real answer, in this and (really) all other things nowadays, is to contract out to the Chinese.
